Living in Las Vegas

I am thinking about moving there not to far from the strip. Anyone else live near the strip? Pro's and cons please. I know it get a little warm in the summer. No state income tax = a plus. Are grocery's more expensive that other places? Thanks for the help.

Why near the strip? I would think North LV or Henderson would be much more preferred. But I am not from there, just my opinion from visiting family who live there. Good luck. Weather is hot and dry most of the year. But that high desert can have some cold winter nights. I do like warmth, says the boy from Boise.

Why near the strip? Dunno I haven't ruled any other place out. I think I would be spending a lot of time there and also want to be close when I have visitors. I really like walking the strip and people watching. I have read that the locals don't spend much time on the strip, I am sure I will find many other things to do once I move out there. I see Henderson is only a few more minutes away from the strip than where I have been looking.

I live in Henderson (Green Valley Ranch). Beautiful Southwest suburban neighborhoods here, and very safe. With great schools. If you don't have kids, you can find other nice neighborhoods that are less expensive...we are a little pricier here because of our great school district. Weather is great in Fall, Winter, & Spring. Summer has three months of 105+ temps, so it does get hot, but if you have a pool it helps a lot (private or community). We have a great car enthusiast culture here. Our local Mustang club is called Silver State Mustangs. Other marques are active, as well (Porsche Club, Corvette, etc.). We have a fantastic Cars & Coffee every Saturday morning - at a racetrack! And, a few of us go to the track (road course) several times a year...we have two (Spring Mountain & LVMS). Also, if you're into drag racing (I am not), LVMS has an excellent 1/4 track called 'The Strip', which has many great events there. There are a ton of job opportunities here, because we are a destination spot, so hotels and convention centers always need good staff.

Thanks Pete! My kids are all adults and will not be moving with me so I have that going for me. I've been looking 10 or 15 minutes west of the strip for a fixer upper I can live in while I do the work in a gated community. So it can't be in terrible shape, maybe a bathroom and or a kitchen redo. I would also install wood floors. Most of the houses I have been looking at have tile through out.

Any areas I should stay away from all together?

Well, let's see. 'Old' Henderson can be a little shady. Boulder City is pretty rural. North LV can be a little remote. East has bad neighborhoods. I know that may sound like a lot of bad spots, but really it's only a few, everything else is very good. West of the strip is good, especially Summerlin. If you can get a single-story home it is an advantage, especially in the hot months.

I'm not too familiar with that area. I drive past it on the freeway a lot. Lots of new home building going on, for sure.

Never been there I hear its nice. I guess my draw to the Vegas area is that home values seem to going up at a decent rate or at least their projected value is expected to grow pretty good over the next year.
Besides flipping a house I've found flip cars are pretty plenty-full out there as well. And if those two thing don't keep me busy enough I figured I would UBER a try.

I think for me right now there just seems to be a lot of opportunity's there.

Crime from what I am seeing can be good or bad depending on the area like many other big city's.

Drifters? Whats wrong with drifters?

Ever been to Reno? Lots of homeless, many bad areas. There are small pockets of bad neighborhoods around Las Vegas. But if you move simply ten minutes away from downtown or the Strip, things get real nice, real quick. And the car culture here is tough to beat.

So we sold our house Aug 3 2018 and arrived in Vegas on Aug 5 my bday. Had a caravan out here with two cars a mini van and a moving truck. We had two dogs and two cats in the mini van. We stayed at the linq for a few days and then onto the la quinta inn until we found a house and closed on it Sept 15. That was not a ot of fun but an experence to say the least. Biught a house in Lone mountain near Craig and Tenaya. Just picked up a Kona 2018 gt. Please let me know about any car events coming up. Party on!

Google PCA-LVR (Porsche Club of America - Las Vegas Region). Get on their e-mail mailing list, so you get notified of all of their events...including the track events. Here is there next one in May: https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...s-vegas-145981
