Legal question about car ownership
So, my Girlfriend's father, who's a pretty shifty character, gave her a 4x4 mazda B-series pickup that she's been driving for the last 6 months or so, but never gave her the title or transferred it to her name. Now he shows up out of the blue, and takes it back while we're both out of the house at work, with all her school stuff in it any everything else leaving her without a vehicle. Is there any legal grounds on which we can fight against that?
Thank's in advance for any advice..

I figured so. I gotta find a way to get her school stuff back though. And then put a new clutch in my pickup so she can drive that for awhile.
I'm just frustrated by this whole situation, ya know?

And I know it was him, because he called her at work to say he was taking it.

Took the truck and didn't leave her stuff, what a useless **** . I would call the police at the very least and see what you can do about recovering her personal property????
Maybe nothing can be done about it or maybe you can make this guys life a little bit uncomfortable if her property can be considered stolen.

The truck is definitely his, if the title still has his name on it. But I'd call the cops if he won't give her stuff back. Whether it's his truck or not, that's theft if he won't give her stuff back. Is he local?...You can't get arrested for stealing your own ****.

Moral of the story is:
Do not leave important things in a vehicle. Period. Matters not who takes it, it's GONE, and that's the problem. If you mange to get the stuff back, bonus, but really, don't do it.
Other than that, the GF is gonna have to deal.
Re: calling the cops? Good luck with that. "I took my truck. I told her I was taking it. Not my fault she didn't get over there and empty it." or some such, and then nothing happens until you sue or something.
Really, this is a classic "domestic issue" and the best you can do is civil courts.

My in-laws are repo people. They've always been allowed to keep the contents of the car if the items are below a certain amount. They have all kinds of CDs and DVDs and stuff.
The sad part is my in-laws are repo people.

Thanks, that really means a lot. Everybody goes through rough times every once and awhile, but we'll all make it through.
