You never, and I mean never, hit a dog. That is pointless.
I'll disagree. I successfully train my dogs in 3-4 days with the paper. They should fear me, we're not equals. As long as the strike has purpose, there's no harm. My dogs love me, and I have a clean house.

If you don't actually catch the dog in the act though, there's no point in doing anything. Just make sure you take the dog out frequently and crate him when you can't supervise him. Keep him contained to one room and as he gets better give him more access to the house.

Either method you choose though, you have to be consistent and always watch your dog!

It's about a single smack or "correction" used to train. Same principle as with the electronic dog fence. A correction at the proper time along with direction from the trainer/owner will go a long way making his and your lives better.

The freaking dog is sneaky.

I can always tell when he has done something wrong- he looks at me like OH CRAP and goes to hide.

The thing about Eddie- he is adorable. He is hilarious also. And he has a perfect #8 on his back- I couldn't imagine life without him.

He has been very good since I came back home(from a bad idea job) though- I walk him regularly and he seems to agree with it. I think he acted out from being left alone for hours at a time.

I bought a new crate- the wire kennel crate type, it also seems to agree with him.
