How does your Lawn Look?

Anyone else a little nutty about their lawn? How's it going for you and what tips do you have for others?

2008 is off to a nice start.

The snow is finally gone. It is starting to turn green. Still half brown.
In a month it should look like last year.

It was just snowing here last week. So that combined with the lack of sun we have been getting it is on track to being green and lush. Gotta hit it with some fertilizer and I think that will wake it right up. No moss or anything else to contend with and all and all considering its been through an extended winter not bad...IMO ofcourse

Very picturesque!

Where are you located? We might as well start asking now. With all the different grass types, people are going to be curious.

With a big freakin' mower.

But you can do the same thing with most mowers (patterns), but a lot of homeowner mowers don't have the blade tip speed or deck design to create enough suction to stand the grass up in any particular direction. You can do it with most riders/tractors, but it's a pain in the but since most don't have a zero turn capability.

Great looking lawns, guys. I used to have a pretty good fine fescue lawn up north, but down here I have no idea what to do with this stuff that grows in sand. The only thing in my backyard is sand and leaves. I'll have to bring this thread back whenever I get something to grow in it.

Yeah, warm climate grasses can be tough. 4 yrs of work on my lawn in Florida and this is all the better it got.

I just moved into a new house so I'm in "weed elimination" mode. The hippies next door have wall to wall weeds so it's been a slow battle. I bet they wonder why my side of their weed lawn is suddenly turning brown. Keyword is: overspray.

Right now I'm 99% Bermuda (1% weed). I would really like some Kentucy Bluegrass, but I don't think its going to be agressive enough to over-run the Bermuda. I might have to go St. Augustine or if I really want to get hardcore, Zenith Zoysia grass. Zoysia is beautiful and very invasive so I don't think my neighbors on the other side would appreciate it (and the hippies wouldn't care). My final gripe, my yard isn't big enough to justify a ZTR mower. When I had my lawn mowing business we has a small 44" cut X-mark that we used on small yards, but I couldn't drop $4k just so I could do wheelies in the street.

you might not wanna use that phrase, some of the guys around here will have a field day!

I like to keep stuff clean, but I dont worry about the mower, that POS surprises me when it even starts, and if the grass is more than like a friggin inch high, the mower cuts itself off.
