HOLY ****!!!!!!!! I almost lost my Mustang (And life) today.

Was in Austin earlier today. Heading back towards Dallas we passed through the small town of West. I could see fire and smoke off about a mile east of the highway. I was just two miles north of West when...

The whole car moved over about 3 feet and I almost ended up in the grass. The driver window sounded like someone threw a huge brick into it. I'm surprised it didn't shatter. I wouldn't be surprised to find the window tint was the only thing that kept it in once piece. It was the loudest pair of explosion I ever heard. Sounded like a 4th of July concussion bomb exploded inside the car twice. Two big booms in rapid succession. I didn't know if I should stop to check on the car or floor it and hope that I lived.

I chose to floor it. Got home, made a quick inspection of the car and it seems to be OK, but 4 hours later and I'm still shaking.

that's a hell of a thing to go through, and yea, keeping your foot in it is the best course of action. Glad to hear you're alright.

That should give you an idea how loud it was. Waco is 20 miles away.

I was probably 3-5 miles farther away than that. The first video I posted wasn't mine, I was driving northbound on I35 at the time. Even being more than 3 miles away the shock wave was enough to almost blow me off the road.

I heard two explosions. People out in Hillsboro and Waco reported multiple explosions.

The explosion knocked out power and could be heard and felt for miles around. Lydia Zimmerman told KWTX-TV that she, her husband and daughter were in their garden in Bynum, 13 miles from West, when they heard multiple blasts.

"It sounded like three bombs going off very close to us," she said.

The video only shows one blast. I heard two. People farther away heard three. The only thing I can figure is that the low, dense cloud cover reflected the blast back down to the ground, and the shock wave bounced up and down like a rubber ball in a box.

Apparently the blast registered as a 2.1 earthquake on the richter scale

Thanks to everyone who said they are glad I'm OK. Say a prayer for the people in West through, they need it.

It's going to take hours to clean the brown stains off my car seats.

Glass is pretty strong in compression the way its shaped and manufactured on the side windows and on the windshield. Much stronger than if it would have been flat and the tensile strength of window film is pretty low, it might have prevent the shattered glass from collapsing inward but I doubt it did much to improve the strength of the window.
