Help!! Vista Ate My Desktop!!!!

ok, so..

I'm using my new Dell XPS M1710. It has Vista.

I was using my laptop mere hours ago. I shut it down, came back now and when I turned it on, it told me my Desktop had become corrupt and that it was an unreadable file. I dont know why...

I can't even drag items to my desktop to refill it, and I lost (i'm assuming its gone forever) a bunch of stuff that I needed. I was storing a bunch of stuff for a friend who needs the stuff for her Bio/Chemistry classes and its not there anymore. this are bad

anyone know what there is to do? I'm going to see how well restarting works (you never know) as well as trying to figure out how to system restore (if i can) to an earlier point in time.

argh!

I assume vista is pretty much like them all as far as restore. So,can you get around on your pc now?You can also try tapping the f10 key on boot up and choose restore to last known working configuration and see if you can anything back that way.I have no idea your level of knowledge,so i included this>

or f8 and reconfigure, but save files first to a disk, other wise you will lose all your files, goes back to original configuration

And now its all a nevermind. I restored to the factory startup and now i just have to reinstall everything. no worries though, this thing was pretty new so all my files fit on my flash drive and all my music and pictures are on my zune or photobucket

Well.. I don't really have a car right now, so its kind of a non issue. I've heard Zune FM transmitters aren't even that great...

Maybe a generic one will work
