Hacked

Put yourself in the mind of a car forum hacker for a second.
You're mad you don't have a car.
Your mother is starting to not take the crust off of your pbj sandwich.
You haven't had a girlfriend ever since your father found her deflated under your bed.
Your world of warcraft account got banned again.
what else would you do?

I remeber some knucklehead in an interview justifying his hacking as a way to force the public at large to get a better understanding of how computers and programs work. If there is any justice in the world, hopefully this toad developed a brain tumor and is forced to perform surgury on himself using only his 'leet hacking skilz.
On the plus side, anybody who wished they could take back some commnet they made recently has had their wish granted (looks around suspciously at the folks on the board - or maybe it was an inside job )

I work in the technology field and hacking attempts are prolific! You would not believe how often we see scanners hit firewalls, invalid login attempts on honey-pot boxes, and such.
There are people out there who do this just to do this. Nothing new, nothing old.

First of all, glad the site is back up. I hope this is not a situation like IMBOC where the server is located in someone's home! I hope this site is hosted on a secure regularly backed up service.

Question? How did they hack the backup too? A secure backup should be on external media and stored at an offsite location. Even if you only do the procedure once a month, it's better than losing 8mo of data.
