Good idea to travel to Florida in Sept/Oct?

Guys,

I would greatly appreciate it if some of you could give me advice on wether it is a good idea to travel to Florida in the second half of September or not.

We are considering to come over to the U.S. for another vacation this year, but have heard several warnings that we might be just right for the "hurricane season".

I guess I am simply asking for your estimates wether this fall will be as rough with several severe hurricanes as last year or rather not.

Just wondering - maybe it is totally unpredictable for you as well, but I would like to know your thoughts about it anyway.

Thanks,

A.G.

well....I just took my honeymoon in Tampa July 15-22...and before I made concrete plans...I did research on hurricanes durring the time of year I was going. Ans it turned out that only 5 hurricanes have ever been in the florida area in the 60 years of keeping records of them....so I felt pretty confident that we would be OK. However... September....does anyone remember Labor Day Last year....??? yeah...I dont think it sounds like a very good idea...and then...after Katrina...we got Rita. Better do a lot of research. But from what I heared...this year's season is supposed to be just like last year's.....Good Luck!

Hurricanes have been pretty active in September the past few years and it is hot as well. The best months are November through April.

The later in the summer you get, the higher your risk will be.

It seems that august and especially september have been the worst in recent years...

however, this is never something predictable.

Yes, it's totally unpredictable. But Aug. and Sep. is the peak period. Last year we (So. FL) were hit by Wilma in late Oct., so go figure. Wilma knocked out power for several days, but at least there were cool temperatures following the storm, which is very unusual.

My family and I usually ( for like the past 7 years) travel to Florida around the end of September, beginning of October and have only had one hurricane during that time. Even the one hurricane was not "that bad" as the hotel we where staying in (Old Key West - Walt Disney World) was able to weather the storm.

It is a great time of year to go to Florida, weather is nice, not too hot, bugs are not that bad. For me, it is a perfect time to go.

Just my .02 cents.

So far, the 2006 hurricane season has been pretty uneventful compared to 2005. By this time last year, we already 9 named storms, 5 of which were hurricanes and two of those were cat 4 or greater. So far this year we've only had 3 storms (none were hurricanes). I also read a report where they think it may be less active this year since the conditions in the Atlantic basin are more moderate than earlier predicted. That of course can change but so far it's looking to be milder this year than expected.

I hope that the hurricane season is a slow one, I'm moving to daytona next month and I'd hate trying to move during a hurricane.

So Nov 17-21 should be a good time to travel to south fl, right?

Cause we're traveling to Homestead for the NASCAR Nextel race on the 19th and really weren't looking foward to hurricanes or really bad weather.
