Garage Lighting

I have a 2 car garage with a 12.5' ceiling that is equipped with incandescent lighting. What does anyone recommend as far good lighting inside the garage.

I mainly use it for detailing only. Has anyone tried using the spiral florescent lights? I would rather not have to change out the fixtures if possible.

Are they easy on the eyes. I have some lighting that you could not look at due to the brightness.

If it illuminates the garage well, why in the world would you look at the light?

Anyway, my garage door opener is plugged into a ceiling mounted 110v dual outlet. One of those outlets isn't being used. I'm going to buy one of these and install it. A friend of mine has this same one and all he had to do was put a plug on it and plug it in to the same outlet I plan on using. It lights up his garage very well and is easy on the eyes.

My neighbor has lights that are very bright so if you happen to being working a lot around them your eyes will become fatigued. I may be part vampire could be the other reason. LOL!

I just realized I have one too. Thanks for pointing that out.

I will look into that. Thanks!

You can never have too much light in a garage. With a 12' ceiling, I'd put about 4, 8 foot dual bulb VHO fluorescent fixtures above (or 4, 4 foot 8 bulb) with 2 more on each side wall about half way up.

But be prepared to see every paint and body flaw your car has when you turn them on.

Similar to what Hillbilly did I have a total of eight 8 Foot VHO T5 80 watt fluorescent bulbs in my shop/garage. Not only can you see everything in garage but when the garage door is closed, from the outside at night all you see is a major glow around the seals. LOL
