My neighbor (Joe) was the waist gunner on a B-24 in WWII and was shot down over Holland during his first mission. The crew was captured and spent the remaining 18 months of the war in a POW camp. A B-17 and B-24 are currently touring the country, and the Chamber of Commerce here lined up a 3 day visit to Massena. I contacted the Foundation that owns the planes and told them Joe's story. They allowed him to fly from Syracuse to Massena this morning. When we arrived in Syracuse, Joe was interviewed by newspaper and tv reporters. He was VERY pumped! Gotta love what his generation (and today's) did for us!

I knew a couple of gentlemen who were B-24 pilots. My dad commanded a PT boat in the Philippines. Because oh Him I knew a number of other navy and Marine corps of WWII. We can never thank them enough.

Here's an update.....there was a HUGE article in today's paper. The article started on the front page with a big picture of Joe. I stopped over there today and he said neighbors have been stopping over to tease him by asking for an autograph, and the phone has been ringing all day. We owe these guys a debt that can never be repayed. BTW- he thoroughly enjoyed the 3 hour cruise in the Stang to Syracuse!
