My suspension was shipped FedEx freight from back east to California for 185.00. It had an estimated scheduled delivery date of 8/8. It arrived early Friday at one of their hub locations near me (less than 5 miles away) This distance is important later on. I called to see if I could come get it myself, so I didn't have to take a day off work, since it needs a signature. The Rep said it's here, but I might have to pay an extra fee for picking it up early. I thought, early? The website clearly states it was an estimated time of delivery, so I ask her, okay how much are we talking here? She puts me on hold for 5 minutes and returns with 188.00 dollars hahaha what? Hahaha I tell her that's more than the actually shipping charge for a 3000 mile trip and for YOU to bring it to ME on Monday. 188.00 more dollars for ME to drive to YOU 5 miles away and pickup my own package. Okay, bring it to me on Monday.

Yeah I often pick up my stuff at the depot when I'm heading to town. Otherwise I may not be home when they deliver (I'm like last of the day). I keep the local number in my phone and call in the morning to arrange. Never paid any extra fee.

I've picked up at FedEx before and it wasn't bad. It was like visiting hours at a prison because they had to let me through the razor wire and special gates. Evidently they don't trust their employees at all. These safeguards were to keep packages in, not to keep me out. FedEx is bad that way. I'm not sure of they use more subcontractors or what.

The great thing about UPS is I know my driver and he knows me. My office and my house are on the same route and he knows where to find me. I tip him at Christmas and he does me a solid when I need it.

The FedEx driver changes constantly and usually he's a douche anyway.

I've never had a problem picking up from FedEx, early or not. Good thing is I have everything shipped to me at the shop so I don't have to worry about someone being home when it arrives.

Plus, every single package from FedEx has been in great shape. UPS...not so much.

Like I said, I think and hope it has something to do with it being freight, because otherwise it's some B.S. As for Ups, that probably has something to do with Ups delivering over 15 million packages a day, 5 times more than a Fedex day.

You can fill out a fed-x form and leave it on your door. It has a place
on the form to pre-sign, so they can leave at your door or with a neighbor.

My house is gated and I was told since it's freight, I had to call and setup a delivery schedule.

What a joke. I'm surprised you waited this many posts to plug your boss.

LOL It wasn't so much of a plug, as it was a defensive reason why he might get a damaged package, but I'm also not defending some of our boys in the back. Some of them can be a little rough.

FedEx has three separate divisions, FedEx Ground, FedEx Express, and FedEx Freight. They all operate out of different hubs, and you can't really compare their levels of service from one branch to another. They don't share drivers or trucks between services.

Which is a crime against the hard workers of that company.
