Don't worry, the Nissan engine was for show only. The V8 powered cars were used for the actual drift work. Too bad the 6 cylinder car was tested fastest out of all of the Mustangs used for the movie...

I guess that goes agains the "no replacement for displacement" theory. I guess there really is something to that whole low weight/forced induction thing.

try running a turbo on the V8 and see if it still goes against the "no replacment for displacment" fact.

Oh, so bigger displacement AND modern technology > than smaller displacement with the same technology? Say it isn't so!!!

Now, put an 800hp RB26DETT vs. a 1,100hp turbo V8 and you have a much more interesting debate (weight differences, torque differences, traction issues, etc.).

I was just saying the turbo I6 was faster than the much larger iron block V8s. And, purely from a performance perspective, that is interesting to note.

Not that it makes for a better car (low end torque, sound of a V8, historical significance, etc.), just that it is faster with a smaller engine, due to forced induction.

So is this the future of street cars? Is this what hot rodding / muscle cars is coming too? Putting RICE ROCKETS in perfectly good V8 car bodies.
JEEESUS, Beam me up scottie, there is no more inteligent life forms left on this planet.

THe RB26 is also an iron block.

So that plus the turbo and all the electronics i'm sure it weighs the same or more then a carbed small block Ford engine.

I suppose so, but the import mag test also mentioned something about hoping this wouldn't be a trend - prevent the butchering of Skylines for their engines and such... More people have put (domestic) V8's in Japanese cars than the other way around if it is any kind of consolation.

it's almost here and I noticed in the trailer that when Sean is going up the escalator at the airport there are posters all the way up the wall with M.C. Hammer asking "What is a digital movie camera?" WTF

I like only it's applictaion in the movie sence I for one would never want to take it to such an extreme, I guess that's why are new Priminister of Canada has made or is about to make road racing a Criminal Offence ! we have a Huge problem with this kinda thing in Vancouver that it is killing way too many innocent as well the guilty partys.

I don't know. At least they've gotten to the point where they know how to remove and install a full engine, instead of just screwing things on. Seems like a step in the right direction. However, when you realize that they're removing muscular V8s and replacing them with some ricer V6s, it looks like a step back.

The car was actually in pieces and had no engine when they started building it. They didnt swap any engines. They needed the car for the finale to race the bad guy and they had an extra skyline engine from a wrecked car. I am sure they would have used an import car but they were all seized by the cops in the movie. The most amazing part to me was that the car was a basketcase to start with and they didnt paint it, just buffed it up and the paint was AMAZING looking. Must have used Zaino.

The movie is actually better than I expected it to be. MUCH better than 2F2F.
