Last year's disaster on the side of the world, as many previous ones, drew lots of support from many nations. That was great. On the other hand, the USA made headlines by not pledging "enough", even criticized and scrutinized by Americans. That didn't go down to good.

Now the USA has its hands full with it latest catastrophe but to no one's surprise no nation is tripping over another to offer any assistance, not a thing. Not even the old "pretending to reach the back pocket to take out the non-existing wallet to pay for lunch" ploy. It would seem it is our turn to receive some help regardless of who we are but I guess it easier for other nations to turn a blind eye and for us to accept it and say it's OK, otherwise we might be offending those who take our handouts unconditionally.

This is ingratitude at its best. Life's lessons never cease to amaze me.

wheres that thing written by that canadian dude who kept on saying how america always helps other countries out, but no one ocmes to their aid when they need it? i remember reading it a while back....

They are waiting for direction from the American Red Cross before Acting.

I was grabbing a bite last night and saw a flier.......
They are soliciting things the people down there need and have lost- basic care stuff:

Toothbrushes, toilet paper,combs clothing, etc.......
magazines for those in shelters..
water
Baby Wipes -
Beef Jerky/Slim Jims
Energy Bars (Power Bar, etc.)
Powdered Energy/Electrolyte Replacement Drink Mix (Gatorade, etc.)
Personal Hygiene Gear: Disposable Razors, Toothbrush and Tooth Paste


Maybe all of us here at TMS could work something like that out to send down?

I'm not surprised at all that we aren't receiving any help. I just wish incidents such as this would shift focus back to the USA WITHIN the USA. More focus on ourselves isn't a bad thing.

That's good and we should be grateful. I was mainly referring to other nations' governments. The USA puts away all differences when other countries are in a bind, a courtesy which is usually not returned.

on second thought, maybe it'd be better if us far oww members sent some cash to you closer members and you guys used it to benefit the victims. i dunno, we could have a TMS collection thing thru the TMS store and then we could all send some money Via paypal. Brad and the rest of you guys could in turn buy some food and supplies and things and get that to those needy people. i dont mean to single out any ones person, but we could do the same thing through any one of our southern members.

A lot of us have already donated Perhaps the governments are waiting to be approached by President Bush for assistance. The way I look at it is he has yet to send in several troops to stop the looting. 100 military police aren't going to make a dent as far as I can tell. So I am pretty sure the president has not asked for support.

 

Of course most other large countries will attempt to do something. Takes a little time, but it will happen.

It's not about them not offering, it's more the effect of Bush saying things like "I'm not expecting much from foreign nations because we hadn't asked for it. I do expect a lot of sympathy and perhaps some will send cash dollars. But this country's going to rise up and take care of it." Almost sounds like a matter of pride.

Finally, keep in mind to separate the peoples of those countries from the government. Plenty of people from all over the world have already donated to relief efforts.

I don't understand why the victims are saying that no one is helping. I sincerely feel for these people, but they must understand that it takes time to organize and transport supplies. The actions of those who are interfering with evacuation and rescue efforts are not exactly helping their situation.

I don't believe it's been mentioned yet in this thread, but Kuwait has offered up $500 million in Hurricane aid. That just goes to show you that not all Arab countries hate the US.
