Angry Computer not working...

Compaq Presario, forget the specs, just got it 1 year, ago, won't go past the "Compaq" screen. Is not responding to keyboard... esc, F1, F10... nothing. Mouse jack is ****ed, but worked anyway... last used 7-8 hours ago- worked fine then, not now.

Your first problem is that it is a Compaq. If you can't start it in safe mode you might have to take it in to get fixed or, you could always re-load windows.

XP? If so, the repair console will usually fix it, either using chkdsk or fixmbr. Fixmbr will probally do the trick. It may sound like you need to reload your bios as well.

In all likelyhood, your files are fine and what not. Dont take it to a computer shop yet or reload windows or you will lose them all.

Agree with Korin, the PC is failing it's POST check which is when it reviews hardware configs, before the operating system starts. Try disconnecting/removing any and all peripheral devices and try it again. If you can't get to the BIOS screen (setup), you have a hardware failure that will require service.

I had the same problem a while back... Right before the XP screen would come up, the black screen with stats said something in the way of "Bad... Replace" right after my drive's name.
This may not be the same problem you have though...

I had to get a new drive, and now its better than before

Solution:
Put a bullet through the screen- buy a Dell.

If the computer is plugged into a power strip, unplug (just the power cord for the computer not the monitor) and plug it directly into the wall. If the computer boots go buy a new surge strip. If it doesn't, come back and report.

Your problem is most likely a bad memory DIMM, a crashed hard drive (if you don't see the drive light when booting up, there's a big clue), or a fried motherboard. Definitely hardware. Messing with the power WON'T fix it. If you're not comfortable working on it yourself, find a reputable PC shop and have them take a look at it.

It's fine now. Just started up a few hours later like nothing had happened.

I'd still take it in to have someone look at it. Obviously there's something wrong with your hardware. Basically you're waiting for it to quit working again.

I wouldn't assume that. My PC had similar symptoms (worked most of the time, but occasionally wouldn't boot). Finally took it in and found out some of the motherboard components (transistors, etc.) had overheated due to a faulty fan and had begun 'sweating'. Pretty nasty. Had to buy a new motherboard.

After many repairs to both kinds, Compaq and HP are easier to fix problems on and rebuild than Dell. (I currently have 8+ computers on my home network and at least one of each kind).

I think I have 4 Dells(3 desktops and a laptop), One Custom Built Gaming Computer(not mine, but it has cool lights), And One no name called an Emachine. All linked together for gaming purposes.
The Two New Dells have behaved so far. This particular one is a Dimension 9150. Its alright, and it plays the sims for me.
