China Threatens America

OK, being able to shoot down satellites is serious...and bad...very, very bad.

Then there's this sucker >>

They "claim" it's superior in many aspects to the U.S. F-16 and French Mirage 2000 jets, though no match for the forthcoming F-22 Raptor.

Then there's China's 2.3 million troops.

It's weird to imagine China being the world's dominant superpower in 20 years, especially given that in a very real sense we're financing their military build-up by buying cheap goods at Walmart.

Taiwan aside, China's need for energy and other resources will ultimately place its national requirements on a collision course with those of the U.S. and other Western nations. All China has to do in a war with the U.S. is dump its American debt (thereby crippling the U.S. economy) and shoot down American satellites (thereby blinding U.S. military and disabling civilian communications systems).

I really wish somebody would put a cap on this. We could start by saying "no" to Chinese automobiles in North America.

It's definately scary to think about. We're so busy here at home fighting with ourselves, and obsesed with Iraq that nobody's paying any attention to a country that's quickly becoming both an economic and military superpower. Don't even bother to mention the education system.

they are also taking all our oil... one of the reasons gas prices went up is because china has started using ALOT more oil..

Nope, and for some unknown reason we don't drill and refine our own. It's my understanding that between the Gulf and Alaska, we have a large supply of crude but we lack the ability to refine it. I think this is due to environmental laws/issues.
Something stinks.
Ya know what else stinks? My 1991 Acura gets 30mpg, and 16 years later a 2007 gets the same. I'd love to know why we're insistant on relying on other countries for our energy needs.

Gas stations would become convenience stores and the middle east would have less leverage against us?
Our economy is a slave to oil. Just think what would happen if we ran out of oil tomorrow.
Chaos. Nobody drives to work. Nobody drives to the grocery store. Don't bother walking to the grocery store, because the semi's didn't make their deliveries last night.

America should pioneer alternative fuels and get off burning oil for fuel altogether. Create a new economic growth industry that the world looks to America for; get ourselves out of the Middle East; and ease the stress on the environment all with one stroke.

Course people like that former CEO of Exxon/Mobile, Lee “Fat Bastard” Raymond don't want anything that cuts into their profits.

We are just using up everyone else's oil so we will be the only one's left with any!

Of course oil is why we're in Iraq. The Saddam thing was just window dressing. Maybe you've forgotten the genocide in Ruwanda, which is why we intervened there. What? We didn't? But they were killing so many people! True, but it didn't affect us because-guess what-Ruwanda doesn't have any oil reserves. Sad, but true.

I understand China wanting its place in the world order. The great irony is that under Mao and especially during his Cultural Revolution China was one of the poorest countries on earth. For the average citizen it remains so today. But those "capitalist roaders" who were denounced under Mao have led China to a place of world prominence today. That scares me a lot. Read a little history of China since 1949 and you'll understand why.

Our trade imbalance with that country scares me even more. BC is right. All they have to do is repudiate our debt and we're up the creek.

When Bush was in Brazil he was shown how the country had spent more than ten years developing an alternative fuel system and now they're pretty much independent of petroleum. Their cars can all burn ethanol which they produce themselves.

Could the US do that? Of course. Should we? Absolutely. So why don't we do it? Could it be that the oil industry maintains one of the most powerful lobbies in Congress? You be the judge.

If we make the right decisions as a country about alternative energy in the near future we may see the day when we can tell OPEC to pour their oil on their corn flakes in the morning.
