Car show for a good cause...entry fee?

So I got a great idea recently. As most of you know, I am a Minister currently focusing on youth ministry. I would like to start up a "Youth Scholarship" program for the kids in my church. I have about two graduating senoirs every year, and I figure about $500 would be a great gift to those going off to college....To fund the program, I thought we (the church) could host an annual car show with all proceeds to benefit the Youth Scholarship Progam of the church...all entry fees, spectator entrance tickets, and sponsor dollars would go there....minus the cost of trophys and door prizes....

5 classes:

Domestic Late model-1975-present
Domestic Classic- 1975 and older
Foriegn makes
Ladies
Daily Drivers

trophys for 1,2,3 for all classes...I debated a motorcycle class, but I dont think so....All paying spectators and entrants get a ballott for voting.

so my question is...how much is too much for an entry fee if its for a good cause?...

That's a greai idea Barbara but I have never in my life entered into a show, If I was closer I'd offer up a fooseball table to raffle off.
It should be enough pending on outcome to help support the incured cost of trophies, there can be some leg work to work on some like entry prises and such so there just has to be a lot og buisness that would love to help I hope and with say most Mustangs maybe even some venders here could ? Hint Hint !

If this is your first show and you can cover expenses while having a good portion left over for the scholaships, I'd suggest the entry fees to be in the $15 - $20 range for cars and $3 - $5 for spectators. Most shows I've visited are in that range.

Depending on the response you can always adjust the entry fees for future showings.

I am old and cheap and I don't go to many cars show with my car.
The best Mustang show around here charges spectators $2 a carload.
Entry fee is $12 up from $10. A vendor booth is $20.
I have entered that one.
A good cause like yours could get $15 from a cheap guy like me.

I do appx 8 shows a year. Entry fees are for the cars and trucks, not for the viewers. We have a church in Flowermound Texas that holds a car show every month on a certain Sat. like the 3rd Saturday of each month. 15 dollars in usually the fees involved. Tha better the trophies, the better the cars. Plaques are cheap, and nice but a trophy shop can make a nice trophy for a good price.Your tax exempt and if you hold a show once a month you get a better price. The youth group could hold a hot dog and Hamberger sale, making them money as well. Great idea, get the word out, hit up any local shows with flyers and make sure you show doesnt conflict with any other local show. We love to go out to the car shows. Sometimes we enter, sometimes we look. Try it out.

Since I'm crazy and did over 60 car shows and cruise nights combined last spring/summer/fall, I have seen the gamot of pricing. I would do one of the two ideas below:

$10 pre-registration till about 2 weeks before the show, and $15 day of show. This way, you get an idea on how many will attend.

Some shows have the rates at $15 pre-reg and $20 day of show. You just have to figure out which one has the better chance of getting more people. From what I have seen in person, when the show has 100% collected go towards charity, you get a great turnout and people don't mind paying a little more. I know I wouldn't have an issue.

I'm trying to think of how many cars I can get there...I need to make $1,000 for next year..I'll have the show in the fall....here is the chart for car numbers vs. entry cost.

$15 entry fee...I need ~70 cars.
$20-55 cars
$25-45 cars

...I would love for spectators to be free just so I can draw attention too it and get people there....I'm thinking about inviting Nelsons port-a-pit for a concesion/fundraing booth so everyone can eat good food and help out $$$ at the same time.

I voted $20, since that seems fair. The one show I take my II to every year charges $30 per car.

Btw, I think this is a great cause and a great idea
