Cannonball!!!!
My hope was to minamize stops by putting in a huge fuel cell in the Crown Vic. I would try to blend with traffic, trying to keep a steady 85-90, and make up the time in desert/backwood stretches. The best fuel mileage achieved in the 1971 race was 13 mpg, by the FERRARI
...So hopefully I could run a least 17-19 mpg, making 2-3 stops.
...So hopefully I could run a least 17-19 mpg, making 2-3 stops.I love the idea and am dying to do something like this. I agree the crown vic would be an awesome choice too, but if youre hoping to average 100mph i dont think theres any chance youll get close to 17mpg. Id say about 12 or 13 tops, especially if its blown.
I was thinkin' of a transmission switchout. To like a 5 or 6 speed manual, like a Tremec. I don't know if the engine or rear-end would be compatible with a manual, but it would possibly save on gas. Thoughts

Did not they just do a TV show, or have a Cast call for one simalar to the Cannonball Run?
Can't remember the name of it to save my life.
Just remember a "post" about it.

Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor
Engine : V8, SOHC, front engine RWD
Displacement : 4,600 cc
Valve : 16 valves, 2 valves per cylinder
Transmission : 4-spd automatic
Fuel economy : city - 16 mpg
highway - 22 mpg
I read you need a "special service" (P71 package) computer for +5MPG and to get over the 110-mph top speed restriction, allowing the car to achieve 128-132 mph

i drove from NYC to San Francisco and back about 6 months ago.
it took me about 4 days each way, but i stopped a lot and saw family along the way.
however, it is a real blast to drive across the country, and i highly recommend it. i doubt you want to go as far north as South Dakota and Montana, but if you can it is worth it, because there were stretches of road there where was pulling a constant 120-125, peaking at 145-155

...Anybody else have good routes/police sting info...where stood you go and where should you not go...
Sounds like a crazy idea but I'd love to see it happen... as far as tips on where to drive, stay away from cities... if you use a radar it may be rendered useless with the speeds your planning, esp. in the open areas... it takes a long time to slow down from high speeds... but radar scrambler and laser scrambler i would say are good ideas even though illegal...
