A city boy named Richard moved to the country and bought a donkey from an old farmer for $100.

The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey to him the next day. But the next day, the farmer drove up in his old truck and told Richard, "Sorry, son, but I have some bad news, the donkey died."

Richard replied, "Well then, just give me my money back."

The farmer said, "Can't do that. I went and spent it already."

Richard said, "OK then, just bring me the donkey."

The farmer asked, "What ya gonna do with a dead donkey?"

Richard, "I'm going to raffle him off."

The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead donkey!"

Richard said, "Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead."


A month later the farmer met up with Richard and asked, "So, what happened with the dead donkey?"

Richard said, "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at $2 a piece and made a profit of $898.00."

The farmer said, "Didn't anyone complain?"

Richard replied, "Just the guy who won, so I gave him his $2 back."

Richard grew up and eventually founded HealthSouth.
