We have a small freshwater tank but can't keep fish living in it. Don't know why.

Tried that. Didn't help. The only thing that lasts a while are those big fat goldfish. Those things are tough.

Probably the water.

If you use tap water that could be an issue.
Change the water at all? What kind of filtration do you have?
Any pumps or heaters in the water...could be leaking current...oddly enough this can effect things. I've seen it all.

Tap water with the chlorine treatment in it. Didn't seem to work. Tempted to just collect rain water for it. We have enough of it right now. Lol

the chlorine treatment is almost a joke. Your better off just buying 1$ gallon jugs of distilled from the store.

Is that what is recommended? The wife set it up the last time with tap and killed all the new fish within a week or so. We also have terrible tap water anyways. Hate even washing my car with it. Lol

I would do distilled, easy to do and usually FW tanks are smaller so a couple gallons will go a long way. If you wanna ensure they have some good water for awhile, i'd switch out maybe 30-40% of the water in there with distilled.

and with the evaporation. a gallon jug will probably last you a week.

SW, its recommended to get a RO unit (reverse osmosis) as things are really sensitive to water. my 90g aquarium was evaporating almost 5 gallons a week. if not more

Finally got some pictures of my new setups. Two 55 gals. The first has a jack Dempsey cichlid, 2 silver dollars, a rapheal catfish and a bristlenose pleco. The second has a angelfish, 3 BN plecos, and 5 spotted Cory cats.

The angelfish and the silver dollars are about 6 years old now and have been through hell and back. They lived through my learning curve, a cat the for whatever reason wanted to **** in the tank, a various other mistakes I have made, but they are still plugging along.

also do a water change every other week. If your not familiar with that means... it means take 10% of your water volume out and replace it with good water. Usually the more the better. FW is easy... Also don't use tap water. You want to use distilled water. or Water from a reverse osmosis unit. Tap water has a lot of bad things in it for fish. IE Chlorine.
Lol funny you mention the Oscar! We made that mistake when we first set up our tank, he ate everything inside and now all where left with is a huge Oscar. He is tough as nails and very aggressive. Literally any thing you drop in, he will attempt to eat. Sucks up bugs like a vacuum cleaner.

When I was young we had an Oscar and a couple of silver dollars. We used to go out and get nightcrawlers and feed them to the Oscar. Sucked them right up!

Here is mine.

I am awaiting my molly to birth any minute now.

Now I am really itching for a bigger tank for my fish.

That's how my JD is. Throw some crickets in there and she goes nuts. Always at the glass wanting to be fed.
