Anyone watchin whats going on in India?

There were some attacks on some big luxury hotels/restaraunts and a hospital in Mumbai India today. Gunmen stormed the buildings, and some tossed grenades about from the top

I'm watching CNN right now, they have live coverage of whats going on over there

78 people have been killed so far, terrorists are unidentified and the number is unknown. They have been targeting westerners, specifically American and British citizens.

The main hotel thats being covered, The Taj Mahal hotel is where I stayed when I went there with my family a few years ago

there isnt much fact right now other than:

its still going on, there are hostages, people are dead/dying and this is pretty effin crazy...

If you know of anyone in that region and have concerns, the State Department has set up a Toll Free Number for info: 1-888-407-4747. ONLY for use if you have concerns on specific American's in that region.

The lack of value for human life in third world countries never ceases to amaze me.

This is enrages me for many reasons. First off ofcourse is the loss of innocent human life, in some pathetic attempt to gain attention for some so called righteous cause. The second since I am of India heritage (myparents were born there) is that this country after so many years was finally starting to see some real properity and forward movement and these fools and other fools like them all seem to come at the worst times and once again destabalize the country and halt progress. However, in somewhat of a paradoxcial viewpoitn I find it ironic that only now does terroist atttacks, or the killing of innocent people gain notoriety and attention in India, when it is the rich, and majority hindu population that is finally faced with such actions. When in the past many minority groups were the focus of such attacks not so much by terroist alone, but by the Indian gov't and the in the case of the 84 riots in New Dehli by the majority Hindu popluation - thousands upon thousands were killed in the streets, and nothing was done at the time nor has been done since. So I find it somewhat interesting to see the differance in reactions, and outrage when it is the majority who this time is faced with tragedy. Sorry for the vent

Are you kidding me? The only reason this is on news here is because of the attacks on the "westerners" as Arin posted. It has nothing to do with the killings of Hindus. There is no such news on that. The 'minority' groups (mainly muslims) attack the hindus on a what seems like a daily basis in India. Temples are bombed regularly, however this does not make the news here. I was born in India and have seen this first hand. A lot of my family resides in Mumbai. Luckily not near where this happened. At a time like this it shows your maturity to bring up racial bias when your prayers should be going out to the families affected.

I think what we should actually focus on is that people in general are dying, and its shocking regardless. I only posted that they were looking for westerners because that is what was happening.

the sheer amount of time, effort and coordination put into this attack is what's truly terrifying.

last night it continued, and now the death toll is over 160. there still has not been a resolution. NSG commandos have even been sent in, and while they have proven to be very effective against whoever is doing this, its still not over

i think it is partially true that the reason we are seeing so much of this on the news is because of the westerner factor (but I still think another key point as to why this is being covered so much is because of the coordination and complexity of this attack). its not right or fair or anything, but im trying to focus less on that and more on the fact that people are being killed for no reason at all

That was exactly my point Arin. My post was in reference to the one above mine. And you are very right about the horrific nature of the amount of time and coordination an act like this requires. That is why 9-11 is was so terrifying. My mom is still watching this as it still continues. Truly terrible.

Listen im not agreeing with what is happening and if you read the first part of my post...im just as upset and outraged as others. However, I am not speaking of the coverage this has received outside of India...which I understand is due to western involvement. I am instead speaking about the coverage within India and the reaction by police, military and gov't forces in regards to the situation. Something you clearly did not see in other times of tragedy when it was the minorities being attacked. Than again I guess you could count there involvement since they were the ones carrying it out. In case you have forgotten in the 84 riots, there was a media blackout issued by the gov't

i hope i didnt come off as attacking towards you or anyone else, i just wanted to try and keep the focus on the fact that what happened was pretty bad. i didnt mean to imply that you agreed with or werent as outraged as anyone else; i ceertainly understand that you were as well

my apologies if it came out that way :-\

I'm kinda shocked that they let the journalists get so close ? how far would they think a bullitt could stray, I've been sick all day and laying with CNN on and they just keep rehashing same old new, kinda senselell , but if they are after foriener and western people kinda makes one think that if they can't get into the states to pull it of why not in another counrty where things would be differnt and quite possibly work in thier favore. Sickening is what it all just is !
