Actually based on the serial number that's a Remington Rand, not a Colt.

26) Remington Rand: S/N 916,405 to 955,000 = 1943

Also the crossed cannons behind the grip signify it's a rebuilt. Does the slide say it's a Colt on the other side, or does it say Remington Rand?

It’s a genuine 1943 Colt and the crossed cannon ordnance stamp was adopted in July 1942 and began in production with Colt serial number: 830000. The right & left side frame and receiver markings are also 1943 Colt marked/serial number range correct. Did you know that some Colt serial numbers were duplicated with other manufactures?

60,000 pistols in the Ithaca range: 856405-916404
41,696 pistols in the Remington Rand range: 916405-958100
4,171 pistols in the Union Switch & Signal range: 1088726-1092896

This could explain why you think I have a Remington Rand due to the duplicated serial numbers, but it’s not. My Colt was purchased unissued by my late father back in the mid 1960’s from DCM for $25.00 and I’ve owned it since then. Anyhow, it’s a unmolested keeper.

A local gun forum I read always rave about them. A fellow Hoosier was selling his, so I bought it. The gun looks brand new, and it was a few hundred less than MSRP which is always good.
