Z06 dethroned?

So, for everyone who creams their shorts over the Z06's "bang for the buck," what say you to a $70K GT-R?

Of course, the interior is even worse than the 'Vettes, but I'm told that doesn't matter....

it is definnatly a great bargin for the performance offered.

One thing to point out. I'm pretty sur the Z06 could have sold for less then it did but there was no competition in that range for a need to do so.

Very impressive.

Kind of love/hate the looks, though. Back end looks awesome, front end looks like it's in search of a design identity.

Maybe not dethrone the Z06, but the Chevy better skooch it's butt-checks over a bit to make room for two on that throne. While the GT-R's certainly no looker, its engineering a putative performance are very impressive and a welcome addition to the ranks of uber performance cars.

I'm with Rhumb. Although I'm probably biased. On second thought, I'd take the Z06 any day and twice on Sunday.

"GT-R-specific lightweight forged 20-inch wheels, with special knurling to assist with securing the tires during hard acceleration or braking, are shod with nitrogen-filled Bridgestone high-performance summer run-flat tires specifically designed for the GT-R, sized 255/40ZRF20 front and 285/35ZRF20 rear."

WTF? So you have to hit the dealership whenever you need some air in your tires? Ive never even heard of this, are any other cars doing this?

It's nowhere near as pretty as the 'vette.
And all the new geegaws and doodads kinda scare me.

"The all-new VR38 engine, named VR38DETT, features innovative plasma-sprayed bores replacing cast iron liners for reduced friction"

"world's first independent rear transaxle ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system"

I think I'll let someone else buy it and test it for the next few years.

This is very common practice. When my brother got new tires on his mustang he had them fill them with nitrogen at the tire place. Nitrogen doesn't expand or contract from temp differences as much.

Re: Nitrogen in the tires. I know race cars do this. Don't quite recall the benefits though I think it might involve less thermal expansion, less tire rubber oxidation (on the inside at least) and less air leakage. You could, of course, fill it up with regular air as I'm sure these benefits are more Nth degree engineering bragging rights than anything the buyer would ever truly notice or benefit from.

benefits of nitrogen.

[1] Nitrogen is denser than Oxygen: This means the larger molecules escape less easily from tires resulting in a more gradual loss of pressure over time. According to the Michelin Tire Manual, a tire that is inflated with Nitrogen loses its pressure 3 times slower than if it were inflated with air.
[2] Nitrogen is moisture free: Pure Nitrogen inflated tires experience less steel belt and rubber degradation. Nitrogen use also reduces valve and wheel corrosion.
[3] Nitrogen provides longer tire life: Nitrogen inflated tire run cooler and require less maintenance
4] Nitrogen is non-flammable: Nitrogen technology has been used in aircraft, military and race car technology for over thirty years.

Yeah, funny thing, my Focus came with tires 70% inflated with nitrogen! Dealer special, they didn't charge me a dime extra for it.

I dunno. If my choice was this or a Z06 and the idea was to obtain a daily driver....if the Nissan is a bit less extreme than the Z06 in terms of ride quality/NVH and the seats are better than the Vette I would probably take the Nissan despite the fact that it looks like a ricers dream come to life. If not I'd choose the Z06 since at least it looks better and I prefer a large V8 to a turbo V6 all else considered. However, I'd take a base C6.5 or a GT500 over either and would likely end up with a far more comfortable car in either case which still possesses performance well beyond what you could ever realistically realize on the street.

Can somebody please build a budget uber-car that isn't just about spec sheets?
