I find this part especially disturbing

"Gaines said she grabbed her child but could not help her father, William Gaines Sr., 61."

Family get together at an illegal drag race at 4:30 AM?

So now the 30-ish crowd (and their parents and children?) are into street racing at 3:40 in the morning? Thats bizarre.

Say, its about time that there should be another crackdown on street racing (read: hassling people in fast cars).

Yep, just read this a bit ago. Talk about crazy, but it happens every so often. One of the guys who used to work for me always talked about a bad crash on the JRB( http://www.roadstothefuture.com/US17_JRB.html ) when they still had the old bridge, two cars racing and the other guy lost it Smithfield side in a heap of burning wreckage - no spectators were harmed though.
