I started a conversation about rice challengers and many people got offended.

My def of a ricer is a japanese badged car no matter if it is made in the US or not. The profit goes back to Japan.

Ricer is also a car with a fart can on the tail pipe, a shopping cart handle on the trunk, and a dip-stick in a white hat (backwards) and an earring.

Since buying the M GT I've noticed a lot of ricers pulling up and spewing the fart can trying to get a race.

So what is your def of a ricer?

Well, I really don't want to start anything. But don't the people (American's) gain something from having Honda's etc. built here in the US? Employment, tax revenue, and such. So saying that anything that has a Japanese brand on it is rice is a little extreme for me.

Rice is like pornography. You know it when you see it. JMHO B)

Yea but the profits still go back to Japan. I don't look at a 4 door Honda without Mods as a ricer, just a Japanese car.

Actually I've seen some very ricey looking Neon's

Well it probably is a little derogatory, but I wouldn't necessairly
consider it racist.

Personally I am a little sick of having to change everything to keep
from offending someone. I don't remember the constitution granting
the right of free speach as long as it's not offensive.

Heh stop worrying about being politically correct. Like the fellow said, you'll know it when you see it. For a lot of us, it is defined by the "pimp my ride" modified 4 cylinder mis badged japanese cars you see out here on the West Coast. Whenever I see a baby blue mid 90s civic with ugly ground effects, an exhaust that you can stick your head into that makes an annoying farting noise, a fake Type-R badge, and no modifications at all to that pathetic 4 cylinder engine, I think THAT is rice.

Sorry, I took this statement to mean that you did think anything that had a Japanese badge on it was rice.

My definition has nothing to do with its origin, but with ANY car that generally has a I-4 or small 6, with wings, wild paint, spoilers, ground effects, incorrect badging, fart can, cheap dark tint with bubbles in it, a primer spot here or there, body colored wheels, and most certainly the white, backwards hat and earring. Doesn't have to have all of the above, but the more it has, the worse it is.

A 05 Mustang driver with non-functional hood or side scoops. Sorry I just hate when people ad stuff that does nothing.

I believe that just about any car (foreign or domestic) has the potential to be riced. It really depends on the driver. To me, rice is more a state of mind. Perhaps it's a generational thing. Most of the rice chariots that I see around here are driven by late teen or early 20's skinny white stick-boys with baggy clothes and too big baseball caps (worn sideways, not backwards). If I spot them inside the mall, I just know they've got a riced-out car in the parking lot. I don't even have to see the car. I just know it. And you can be sure that if they don't have a rice mobile, they sure as heck want one. Give them a Rolls Royce and they will rice it fast and furiously. Let's be clear about this, some of them also drive Mustangs. I parked next to a red late 90's Mustang the other day. Primer painted plastic flying circus fascia up front, big ol' fart can exhaust, Alteezzas and a triple Baron von Richthofen wing on the back. Disgusting for sure, but I'd wager that there are plenty of punk kids and skanky-hooch girlfriends out there who reading this description would say "Cool car". To each his own.

The term rice burner or rice car refers to automobiles that have the appearance of high performance but possibly with little or no functional mechanical modifications. The "rice" refers to the fact that many of these modified cars are of Japanese origin and owners or drivers are often (but not necessarily) Asian. Drivers of rice burners are known as "ricers" or "rice boys". These terms are often used as a pejorative or ethnic slur.

That's the definition I've always followed, and it can most certainly apply to non-japanese cars. Neons in particular.

It's not a Neon, it's an SRT4.

Exactly. Just like I know a pony car when I see it. It's too difficult to simplify based on the company anymore: Mazda has the Ford relationship, GM and Toyota, some Japanese cars are built in the US, etc.

True, especially since there are really only 2 major U.S. automakers left.
