Okay, so I don't have pictures, but imagine this:
I'm driving in rush hour traffic in San Diego this evening. A couple lanes over I see the rear end of a Chevy - probably about a '70. Real nice silver paint job and decent bodywork. I'm thinking restored SS. I drive on for a bit.
I look over again and see the front quarter of a real nice Camaro - probably second generation. Silver. Then it hits me....
I hate to admit it but I'm now completely oblivious to the other cars around me. I am rubber-necking like I just spotted Suzanne in the white T-Bird. It's one car. The back half is a Nova or Malibu or something and the front half is a Camaro. Then I pull ahead of it far enough to see the front end...
It's not a Camaro. It has the front end of a GTO judge. And resting above the destinctive double-mouth is a Pontiac 442 hood.
And I kid you not - it's riding on Bullitt rims.
Wish I'd had a camera, but hey, if I had I might have rear-ended someone.

Well, I feel really stupid!
I looked at the link to the '69 and said to myself, "I know what the hood of a Judge looks like. Those two air scoops are higher up and much smaller than what I saw. But I did a little surfing and saw the '71 - lower, wider and much closer to those on an Olds 442.
The car I saw had round tail lights which was another thing that made me think Chevy. I've not seen any pics of a '71 GTO with those, but you guys probably already know if that was an option or something.
Here's the 71
http://ultimategto.com/scripts/showcar.cgi...1971/71_00002_2
only 10,000 were produced, compared with about 100,000 in '69-70
and the 69 I was familiar with before

So I thought I was looking at a mermaid but it was just a manatee.
