Uncovered! Hyundai Genesis Coupe = Mustang Competition
Uncovered! Hyundai Genesis Coupe = Mustang Competition

What was thought to be the Tibouron is the Genesis Coupe. Scooped at a media event undisguised.
Looking closer you see our fellow pony sitting next to this newcomer.

ok.....its exactly the same color....and whats the deal with the badge on the stang?
Apart from the images, the poster also added several details about Hyundai’s new rear-wheel-drive coupe that were revealed at the presentation. According to the guy that attended the presentation, the new Coupe will be offered with two engine options, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder unit producing 215 Hp and a 300 Hp strong 3.8-liter V6 unit. Initial prices were said to start at $19,900 (€13,500) for the 2.0L and $25,900 (€17,500) for the V6 model.
From The NewTiburon Forum:"
Wow, I really wanted to like that car...when they finally got the drivetrain right, why did Hyundai choose to make it so ****ably ugly? Also, if those price estimates are correct, this thing barely undercuts the 'Stang...what gives Hyundai? You're a tier 2 automaker, you have to give us the same amount of car for less money.
I like from what I can see....except for that dip in the rear side window. Dont know, maybe it would look better if it just followed that front window line. And call me crazy, but at first glance the back KIND OF reminded me of the XK.
Hmm, like Another Mustang Man this isn't as well executed as I initially believed that it would be. The appearance is okay at best with the car looking like a rehashed G35 that is a good bit worse for having gone through the makeover. And the engine offerings aren't as well thought out as I had hoped for by any means, particularly since the car is a bit bigger than I expected this car to be.
All the profile "texturing" they did to distract us from the fact that its an RSX/G amalgam is what bothers me. For examples, the two non converging "character" lines and the stupid window dip? Pick one line and the window dip, or both lines and no window dip, or no lines and just the window dip..or whatever (if you must have any of them at all), but all three is just cluttered. Regardless, the interior is nice, I've seen a few spy shots and it looks very modern/well layed out/ and high quality.
In sum, if I were thinking of buying a G35 (a car I love), I might cross shop with this Genesis. But if I were trying to decide between a G, this new Genesis, or a 'Stang GT...as a young guy, the choice would be clear. The new Hyundai will be popular among highschool girls, the G among the 30 and up crowd, and the Mustang among everyone.

What the heck is up with the bizzare quarter window shape? It looks wierd. The side sculpturing reminds me of the the late model Celica.
Everybody's gunning for the Mustang these days... Chevy, Chrysler, Nissan (Altima Coupe) now Hyundai....

To each their own gang. My four adult children are have discussed just whom shall be able to aquire Dad's 2007 GT/CS Stang some day in the future, after yours truely has left for the big Route-66 in the sky! Mustangs forever!!

No first year car is going to compete w/ the heritage and personality of a muscle car that is an American icon.
If we were talking about a new Z car or Skyline, then sure, but not this Hyundai.
Oh and about the price, $25,900 for a V6 coupe to start!! Are they out of their minds? Not much of a value IMHO.
