You just hit the nail on the head. Toyota drivers echo (no pun intended) Toyota vehicles.

All through the '80s Toyota built some great cars; Supras, Celicas, MR2s, etc. They were cutting edge and head & shoulders above all the other Japanese automakers. By 1990, Honda began to take the lead. By 1995, Toyota had become the Maytags of the auto industry. Still are.

That said, I wouldn't count them out yet. Future sports cars are rumored.

Never turning into their own lane, ever
Slow to start, especially at advanced left green lights
Staying BEHIND the white line when they are first in line at a left turn lane (meaning only 1 car, them, gets through when the light goes yellow, thanks dude)

Generally I just avoid them, ESPECIALLY in parking lots. My take is that people who drive Toyota cars bought them purly as an appliance because they believe the hype out there that they are "the most reliable, most economical, best value" automobiles. These people just want to get from a to b with the least amount of fuss. They don't care about driving, they may not even like it, but do it because they have to.

Those, my friends, are people I try to avoid in my travels.

Well, in my neck of the woods, all the attributes you describe above could be applied to a certain ethnic group which you could easily substitute for the word "Toyota." Now that sounds horribly racist - and perhaps it is - but therein lies the danger of this discussion. Substitute a brand for an ethnicity, and suddenly, what may in fact be true, is also seemingly discriminatory.

Interestingly, the particular group in question out here generally don't drive Toyotas (or any appliance brand, for that matter) but rather pick from the opposite end of the automotive gene pool; Mercedes being the brand of choice.

In Hawaii, most of the idiotic drivers are known to drive ""fast" and furious" Acuras/Hondas or else recently "graduated" to a AWD/RWD import after FINALLY catching on to the difference vs. FWD. Next up is the "blinged-out" big truck/SUV crowd who use their size to bully their way through traffic or simply disregard all smaller vehicles because they can't see them while yakking away on their cell phones talking to their homies or some other wannabe "gangsta isht" when the only 50cent they hang with is the loose change in their pockets...
At least you get to live in Hawaii.

Always wondered what that would be like.

Lets see.

Camry, RAV4, Avalon, Highlander and Sienna all use 3.5L which is one of the most powerfull engine in its class (268 hp). Tundra's 5.7L is the most powerfull engine (381 hp) in 1500 class.

Corolla and Yaris might be underpowered, but not all Toyotas.

I don't own a Toyota. But remember that there are alot of Toyota cars on the road. So, your chances of seeing people annoying you while driving their Toyotas is greater than some other cars.

Since we are discussing people's driving habits, I have a funny story. My wife and I own our Mustang GT and a GMC Yukon. One day while my wife and I were out running errands in our Yukon, we were pulling out of a gas station. There was plenty of room in front of a yellow 05 or 06 Mustang, so my wife pulled out of the station as the Mustang was approaching. There probably was at least four or five car lengths space in front of the Mustang which was slowing down as it approached the intersection because traffic was coming to a stop. So my wife pulls out and the driver of the Mustang speeds up and lays on the horn and almost hits the back of our Yukon! I'm sitting in the passenger seat thinking of what we have parked in our garage (05 GT), and here is this Mustang driver causing the whole episode. And it was a six cylinder Mustang. By the way, I don't have anything against sixes, I'm just describing what happened. It was just so funny because the driver of the Mustang probably was cursing at us because we not only pulled out in front of him/her but also because we were driving an SUV. Like I said though, there was plenty of room and traffic was almost stopped. I guess the driver of this Mustang thought they were hot and did not want anyone in front of them.
Lets all enjoy our cars, but please, from what I've seen there are plenty of bad drivers and they drive all kinds of vehicles.

Oh! ...Oh.....sorry, just fell asleep there a little as you were naming off those nameplates. No matter what you say, underpowered, overpowered, whatever, they are still DEVOID of any soul or personality. Being the highest powered in a segment doesn't mean that they are fun to drive, or even desirable vehicles. They are appliances, and ugly ones at that. Have you SEEN the interior of the new Tundra? It's atrocious. There is no design philosophy, no flow from part to part. It's just this ugly mish mash of garbage. The outside is quite nice, although the quality of the door handles, and the feel of the door when you close it is very cheap.

Hmm maybe I should stop before I start a war with someone on here!

Did anyone say they're fun to drive? Did I argue with that statement? No, I didn't.

I wrote that Toyotas are not underpowered PERIOD. Nothing else.

Nobody's talking about the SUV's, although the RAV4 is blah too. When you drive these vehicles, you....

...

...

... Oh, I'm sorry. I think I was remembering driving a Camry. I was saying you fall asleep. I don't know if it's the weight, the tuning, the torque, the transmission, etc, but Toyota has managed to engineer a car with 250hp that feels like you can't get up an entrance ramp.

They are boring to drive, no doubt about that, but that doesn't mean they're underpowered.

Oh don't worry, we're just picking on you because you're defending them, even if you ARE right. I know they aren't underpowered as a whole...its just that I, and apparently others, can't stand them.

Driving slow in the left lane
And then they speed up as you try and pass on the right, after REPEATED 'Flash to Pass'.... I hate these people...

The last minute pullout at 1/2 the speed limit
This annoys the ever lovin' pi** outta me... Especially on 2 lane highways where you can't pass the numpty

Slowing down for no reason
This goes with people who I pass on the highway about 6 times in the same trip. They are going along at 120... I pass them doing 130 in cruise...they FLY by me doing 140, only to slow down to 120 again, and I pass them AGAIN still doing 130 in cruise.....

No shoulder checks...just drifting
Hated it.... emmmm hmmmmm...<snap>
Or the people that don't signal and weave

Never turning into their own lane, ever
On a right hand turn lane and going into the far left... Yep...
Douche...

Signal? My car has a turn signal?
And people weaving....

Slow to start, especially at advanced left green lights
It amazes me how many people don't realize what an advanced green is!!

Staying BEHIND the white line when they are first in line at a left turn lane (meaning only 1 car, them, gets through when the light goes yellow, thanks dude)
It's funny cause its the law really, one person in the intersection...
BUT...NO ONE does it... except these ******!

I need a drink....

I have to agree with this completely, specially here in Houston. Oh and another observation with this is people who drive with their high-beams on like they have no headlights what so ever are usually in Honda Accords and/or Toyota Camrys.

I'm buying. I'll meet you at the bar if I don't get stuck behind a Camry on the way!

That's a new motor for 07 that I haven't had the chance to drive yet. (Although if I do, I'll probably ask to be drug behind the car.) Here's the 2006 specs - under 200 h.p.'s on the upgraded motor -
Car and Driver Magazine:
2006 Toyota Camry XLE V6
3.0 L, V-6, 5 speed Automatic

0-60
7.60 sec.

Horsepower @ RPM
190@5800

Both the 2006 Accord and Mazda 6 are nearly a full second faster to 60. Yaris, Echo, Camry, Avalon, Corolla, Matrix... anybody still awake?

That's the old Camry. It has nothing to do with old Camry; Camry is not even using 3.0L anymore.

Compare Fusion with Camry. Compare Avalon with 500 (or Taurus). In both cases Toyota makes more power. Yaris has 106 hp. Does Fit and Aveo have a lot more?

I mean, if Toyota's underpowered, I don't know what I would call Ford.

Heck, even Toyota knew the Camry was underpowered. That's why they're trying to fix it in 2007. Why are you so defensive of this boring, underpowered car that Sears is going to start selling under the Kenmore nameplate?
