Tip of the hat to GM for this idea

This sounds like a great idea: stashing the Camaro convertible's radio antenna in the rear spoiler. Hats off to the engineers at Chevy for coming up with this solution:

Ham radio geekery fixes Chevy Camaro Convertible's antenna [w/video]

I was all set to give kudos for a great solution, but then the shark fin is still there. So the antenna still looks nasty.

the antenna they got rid of was the whip antenna for AM/FM like the mustang has.

I can hear it now. "Yeah, our interior is made from the same plastic as Legos! Our two-ton behemoth, even with IRS, gets outhandled by the Mustang and its SRA. You can barely see out of the windows our our car. Years and years and years of hype couldn't save our car but, dammit, our AM / FM antennae is hidden in the rear spoiler!" -GM Representative.

Yeah, some consolation. Ha ha.

If the Mustang were to adopt this sort of technology, what would the spoiler delete guys do? I guess they could just do like me and listen only to their Sirius radio.

Cool idea, but I could live with the old mast antenna a lot easier than that shark fin.

I had one that the antenna was incorporated into the windshield. I wonder how it works being in the spoiler... seems like a decent enough idea.

It's not like they reinvented the wheel or something.

Maybe they can use some of this innovation to design a V8 engine with overhead cams instead of pushrods.

A neat small fix for a small problem.

Now all they need is a large fix for a large problem, its largeness.

Ya I can't help it , I'm going to cry If GM decides to go with the 5.5L OHC stuff. 5.7 (or 350) is to GM like 5.0 is to Ford. To me more tech = more work for me to do to it later on down the road. I'll put well over 100K miles on it and will refuse to treat it like an eggshell so all those electronic gizmos just add to the others that will need replacing. Plus how the hell am I supposed to put a big wide DOHC V8 in the back of my planned Fiero build?

Oh and that shark fin would be the first mod I did, as in C-ya. I listen to local and MP3's don't need no stinking satellite radio or onstar anyway.
