The only one running as near as I know..IN england lovingly restored
This thing is incredible. I love German tanks and this is my absolute favorite. Now just listen to how noisy the drivers compartment is

Not going to be the only running one for long, there's an outfit in the States that's restoring vintage tanks. They finished a panther recently and a Tiger's wawiting in line.

Way cool one Doug.
Just can't imagine what a forest full of Tigers tanks charging your way must have
sounded like back in WWII.

Doug, did you ever catch that Military Channel Series Tank Overhaul?"
I think it was on last winter, but can't find it now.
It was filmed in England, and saw shows were they restored a Sherman, Comet and a Panther.
Can't find it in the current listings for Mil Chan or Discovery Chan, but
here's a listing for it on History Television, (looks like our neighbor's to the north still get it):

Was a great show..I wish it got more airplay

WOAH I hadn't seen that episode whith the tank on a rotissery. History tellivision???? what the hell.
The one i saw they if i remeber were dealing with a starter issue on the sherman. I seem to remeber one of the guys rebuilding it from parts he scavenged

Yeah, WWII German armor was awesome. Although, every time I see a Tiger I have top think it's a poor substitue for the two Panthers that could have likely been fielded in it's place. Reliability issues aside the Panther would have easily remained a competitive design into the 1960's, particularly if it had receieved the planned up-gunning conceived after Panther II was scrapped. A Panther with more hp, better mobility, and a Tiger II's 88mm main gun would have been a devastatingly effective combination.

The Comet was awesome if for no other reason than the RR V12 engine bringing up the rear. The armor equivelant of shoe-horning a modern Roller's V12 into a Triumph Spitfire. Total overkill...and of course, overkill is a good thing.

Imagine a battalion of these things plowing through your village, turrets blazing, along with a few hundred troops, and Messerschmidts flying overhead. Gives one a pretty good idea of why Germany controlled two-thirds of Europe by 1943.

Could have probably held it, too, if Hitler hadn't had the Napoleonic-complex that led him into Russia (BIG mistake).

Bombing England was also a stupid blunder.

So tanks were first invented by the British in WWI to penetrate the German trenches and barbed wire. The original tanks were so top secret that the British builders working on it were told they were constructing water carriers.

Hence the term "tank".

Kinda cool.

Very intimidating indeed! However, I think the coolest looking German tank of WWII was the Panther:
