pretty straight forward job. About a 3 hour job for a rookie taking your time.

The struts on pre 05 Mustangs can be replaced without taking out the spring, since it's a separate piece, in case you didn't know. You still need to keep the lower control arm supported by a floor jack to keep the spring from getting out of place. It's a pretty straightforward process.
1. Loosen the front wheel nuts
2. Raise car (doh!) and place on jackstands
3. Remove wheels
4. Loosen the upper strut nut (the big one in the center of the strut mount| If the shaft turns along with the nut, insert a large flat screwdriver on the slot of the strut shaft and loosen the nut with a wrench.
5. Loosen the lower strut bolts/nuts but DON'T remove them yet.
6. Place a hydraulic jack under the control arm and raise it just enough to keep the spring on it's place, then remove all the bolts and nuts holding the strut in place. An often forgotten item is the bolt or clip that holds the brake hose.
7. remove the strut from the car.
8. remove from the old strut the rubber bushings and the dust cover if they're in good shape, if not, replace as necessary. Installation is in reverse of removal.
Hope this helps you
