Equus... sounds similar to equine/equestrian doesn't it? I vaguely recall Hyundai may also be looking at producing a V-8 RWD coupe in the near future (supposedly would've gone up against cars like Pontiac's GTO)? This could be a basis for such a vehicle since all the right prerequisites are there - other than the two extra doors.

If Hyundai wants luxury cars they should build new luxury brand. People don't wanna luxury $30,000+ cars with Hyundai name on them.

Sort of reminds me of the Audi A6. I like it.

Korean car manufacturers are where the Japanese were back in 60's and 70's, except that their initial build quality is higher than in those days-and getting better-and this country has already embraced Asian imports with a passion. Production costs in South Korea are less than those in Japan so the cars can be priced competitively.

Zoran, you may be right about Hyundai needing a diferent brand name for luxury cars, like Lexus and Toyota, Infiniti and Nissan, etc., All they'd have to do is rebadge the car, but I don't think the company is in a position to open a string of stores just for a new luxury line right now so I doubt that will happen.

Nice to see they are at least trying to broaden their lineup but I would never buy a Hyundai.

Why not? Cheap, reliable and 10 years warranty.

If I was buying import Hyundai would be my first choice.

Yeah I remember that story.
I still don't know how car was out of warranty when Hyundai has 10 years warranty and even oldest Tiburon is hardly 10 years old.

I need to update you on that one. We found it later it was still under warranty BUT the warranty didn't cover our specific problem (ignition related). The 10 year powertrain warranty is very specific about what it will and won't cover after the basic warranty expires. Luckily it wasn't very expensive to fix. The car had a long and illustrious history of electrical problems (among other things).

My friend from work had brand new fully loaded Tiburon and he was very happy with the car.

He paid $21,000 for his and I don't think there are other fully loaded sport coupes on the market for that kind of money.

That's why my wife bought hers. Maybe she got one of the ones on the bad end of the quality spectrum.

I don't think Hyundai is a long-term car like Toyota or Honda. But for the money I think they're best choice.

My first "new" car was an '02 Accent. It was very reliable and worked out a lot better than the '89 volvo I drove before it. Although as soon as I got into modding and Added a 50 shot of Nitrous and sticky tires it became immediately clear I'd be a lot happier a V8 RWD stang. so I put all the money I would have spent on an engine swap into paying the car off instead so I could get my 05.

Like others said, it's a great starter car. My monthly payments on it were $140/month on a car that came with 6,000 miles on it.
