Rumour Mill: No Camaro, no new GTO til 08
Looks like rumours are spreading around the GM boards that the "revived" Camaro may be dead altogether, and that the next version of the GTO will debut in 08 and not 07 as had originally been planned. If these prove true could any reasonable person believe that these decisions have nothing to do with the sales disaster that was the 04 GTO?
In truth, I find these "rumours' far more believeable than the idea that the GTO's utter failure had no repercussions in the GM boardroom. Knowing the nature of CEO's and Execs today unless the 05my is very good to the GTO I would not be at all surprised to see the GTO simply dissappear into obscurity.

How much do you want to bet they're waiting to see if 2005 GTO sales improve? If they don't, I bet there won't be an '08 GTO.

that would stink!
I want to see another Muscle Era!
GM and DC just have to get some good people in there with some good ideas (and by good ideas i mean getting this muscle car competition going in full force)

Jsaylor, what GM sites did you see this on? I'd like to read what's being said myself.

I did a little poking around in GM Inside News but didn't find anything. I guess I didn't look hard enough.
actually, it kinda is. doug think of it this way, with less competitors, the mustang will progress into the future a bit slower. what i mean is that without competition expect the mustang to not have many revolutionary developments anytime soon.
in fact, thats what competition does, it stimulates change and more often than not, its a good change. i dunno, maybe im just rambling.
but personally i want to say this to all the other american auto makers:
"bring back the firebird, the 'maro, the 'cuda, the duster (i like them
) the challenger, the cougar, the chevelle, the torino, the 'chero, the el camino and make sure you bring em back in more than just name!" then and only then, we will have another muscle car era, and i dont hink many people wouldnt want that....unless you're an environmentalist...
and in conclusion to another one of my late night, elongated posts, i just want more muscle cars. im freakn sick and tired of people saying "dude my SRT4 is sooo fast" get yourself an old school charger and THEN i will appreicate your diamler-chrysler power.
im so sick and tired of these imports and the like that I, a blue bleeding ford guy, am good friends with a bowtie wearing chevy guy because we both love big beefy MUSCLE cars*, not small-dicsplacment-look-at-how-high-pitched-my-motor-can-fart cars
*and posibly that he used to have a nice fox too, but thats beside the point*
and for the world of muscle cars, i have one last thing to say (for real this time)
the more, the merrier

Whoever said that piece about the Camaro name not being able to be used was correct. They laid off so many workers that they had to officially declare there will never be another camaro, so that they people being laid were legitimately fired and not replaced somewhere else on a cheaper assembly line.
Internal memos have pointed that Chevy, if they make a muscle car, will most likely use the Monte Carlo name and replace the existing one. I just read this somewhere and I will try to find it. I believe it was either autoweek or MPH magazine..... I let ya know.

Does that extend across to the Firebird name? I always preferred the Firebird anyhow (WS6 just looks mean ... I know it's not aerodynamic but I freakin love the thing lol) and that might be an option.
i like the birds a bit more too. i kinda dig the hoods. gives a darth vader-esque appearence :jedi:
the maro is more like.... a stormtrooper. what would you take: Vader or a trooper. yeah thats what i thought
