Rumor Mill: 5th Generation Camaro
So i've heard from a GM fan friend of mine, that Chevrolet will be unvieling the 5th generation Camaro at NAIAS in January.
I dont think this person would throw this out there unless there was a reputible source.
Its gonna be interesting!

The T/A has been riding the Camaros coattails long enough, i say dont bring it back. The camaro is lighter, cheaper, cleaner, and overall just way better IMO. Good news that theres gonna be some fresh competition though.
For late 70's I'd choose a Trans Am (thinking Smokey and the Bandit here), most otehr years I'd choose a Camaro. The Trans Am was way to bulbous towards the end, and most other years was just plain ugly.
Oh, I'd take a K.I.T.T. too, especially if it could talk and had a red flashing sensor in the grill.
Is the Camaro going to just be a "show" car ... i.e. not a production car? I'd assume this is the case, since we've heard so little.

We've been hearing this story ever since it became apparant the '05 Mustang was going to be a runaway success. I would love to see GM come out with a killer Camaro but I'm afraid this is just more wishful thinking from the GM crowd, especially in light of very little info coming from GM (either officially or through leaks to the automotive press). I don't mean to throw a wet blanket on this but that's the reality of the situation as I see it. Hopefully I'll be wrong.
Well I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Also when it comes down to it, it could just be another concept that fizzles out yet again.
I think it would be neat to see the Camaro come back. Let the HP wars begin. Just as long as GM doesn't goof it up like Chrysler did with the Charger.

I doubt we will ever see the firebird again, I believe they will build up the GTO nameplate as a more upscale and plush musclecar with all the creature comforts.
I would have liked it if they called the solstice the Firebird. It wouldn't have been a far stretch considering the original concepts were 2-seaters.
As for a Camaro concept, I guess we'll have to see... somehow I doubt it as they don't really have a platform to put it on (I guess they could stretch the kappa).
Either way, the rhetoric from GM is that the GTO won't be retro (explain the HHR and SSR?). I will guess the same will apply for the Camaro. That is a shame as there are great heritage cues to tap into.

despite the fact they don't really have a RWD platform right now, i doubt they'd even bother naming something a Camaro if it were on a front wheel drive platform with that 5.3 liter vortec. They've already got the monte carlo doing exactly that right now anyways.

My first new car was a 1970 Camaro SS350. That year Road & Track called it one of the 10 best looking cars on the road, and of course I agreed. When Chevy went away from that body style the cars got uglier and uglier.
I'd like to see a rebirth of the Camaro, but after the styling fiasco that masquerades as the current GTO, I have little hope for the Camaro.

I guess if GM really wanted they could use the GTO/Monaro platform but I think the general public wouldn't be too happy with something that relatively large under the Camaro name.
I'm excited to see what happens though

Actually, I can see an ad campaign here. They could introduce the new CCR on a dark street with the song "Bad Moon Rising" as the soundtrack....
