Growing up in the '70s & '80s has made me a bit bitter to auto manufactures that offer basically the same car with different names.
ie: Cadilac Sedan DeVille, Buick Park Ave & Olds 98; Ford Thunderbird & Mercury Cougar; Dodge Neon & Plymoth Neon
Today, auto makers are trying to hide it abit more, but some are still obvious -such as Nissan 350Z & Infiniti G35...
With the ability to make "stand out" cars seamingly deminising, rebadging a great one is inevitable. Which brought my attention to a possible Mustang rebage in the Ford family tree... The Aston Martin V8 Vantage

 

 

Although I admit that I do not know for sure, I HIGHLY doubt the mustang was simply rebadged into a couple hundred thousand dollar car (or even a $100,000 car). I would assume the entire drivetrain is different. I could be wrong, but it seems very unlikely.

 

Nice looking car, but I don't see any resemblance.

 

um, dont think that is a rebadged mustang. the aston martin is a completely different drivetrain. and they really dont even resemble each other. the only simalaries are that they are both coupes and rear drive. and the 350 and g35 do not look anything alike. they have the same engine and transmission. the G35 is more of a rear drive altima than similar to the 350Z

 

It wouldnt surprise me, the jaguar s type, lincoln ls, and the mustang all use the same platform why not aston martin. But after saying that, your right that does look similar to the mustang. Rebadging has to stop

I just went skulking around real quick for details. It's defineatley NOT the same engine or transmission.

Aston Martin is a "premium" auto maker, even being a Ford property, I highly doubt that any Aston Martin would be a simple "rebadge".

I did note however that they proclaim this as being the most affordable Aston Martin ever. So it could very well be based on the DEW platform to keep costs down.

But my feeling is that's where the similarity ends.

If it was a rebadge, it would essentially be a 4.6 liter 3 valve 5 speed transmission car with a different body. It isn't.

Aston Martin is a completely different monster than those posted. Everything on it is hand assembled, with top of the line products, no hand me downs from Ford on this gorgeous vehicle.

Yup that might get you a test drive, but I doubt it.

Anyway back in 1969 the Aston Martin DBS V8 was as close as they have ever been to looking like a mustang, and they wern't that close back then
and also back then ford had nothing to do with Aston Martin.


They had similarities, but then so does any sports coupe doesn't it?

Every time I go to England I take a trip over to Newport Pagnel (where they make Aston Martin) it is 25 minutes from my dad's house.

Its changed over the years, but I've never thought that anything really looked like a mustang ever.

They get a little pi$$ed at me taking pictures too.

The Nissan 350Z and Infiniti G35 are built on the same platform with the G35 just having a longer wheelbase, thus it's a 4 seat coupe rather than just 2.

These cars are almost identicle from an engineering stand point, differences are mainly styling, wheelbase, and interiors.

BTW, probably already known by many, but the G35 is a Nissan Skyline just about everywhere else is the world but the U.S.A.


No Aston Martin has anything in common with a Mustang other than FoMoCo is their parent company and they both have 4 wheels.

 

Don't even get me started on rebadging!!!! GM plays this market the most and quite frankly the most aggravating! :angry: . the Pontiac Grand Am/Oldsmobile Alero, Blazer/Jimmy/bravada, Escalade SUT/Avalanche, Venture/Montana/Silouhette, the best I think the Hummer H2/ Chevy Suburban!! I could keep going but I think everyone does get my drift! Just my .02.

I know that the next Jaguar XK8 is going to be the same body as the Aston Martin.... or they're calling the Jaguar CMS or something goofy.... but its a different power train. People that spend $325K on a car get very irritated when the same thing is sold under a different name... they loose the exclusitiy of their car and of course are mifed about the $ thing... But, yeah.... I wouldn't suspect that Aston Martin would ever allow their platform to be used under the Mustang. I'm sure the board over Jag and AM would throw the biggest fit.... They don't likw loosing their revenue, even if it is to another division in the same corporation.... it makes them look bad.
