Thumbs up

Just a quick question for all you salesmen out there. Any advice on how to go about getting a sales job at my local Ford dealership? I've always loved Fords and have wanted to sell them for a while now. I just didn't know how to go about it. What kind of experience do I need? I've done sales in the past. Unfortunately it was just in retail and in wireless. What kind of info should I put on my resume? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, getting a job in this business is usually very easy. Sometimes the main qualification seems to be just having a pulse (but not always needed, check with your dealer). That being said, do yourself a favor, shop hard. Compare dealers, payplans, hours, benefits, etc.. Ask to talk to a couple of their current salespeople. Remember the dealers reputation, good or bad, becomes yours. Stop people at the gas station, etc with that dealers tag on their car and ask them what they think.

Also, look at the dealers ads. They will give you an idea of how they do business. If they are one of these dealers begging for people with bad credit to come in, chances are they are a heavy handed closing store, with all the legendary tactics. If this is your style fine, but if not, find a store more matched to your personality.

It is a tough business, I've been doing it since 1987 and love it, but it's not for everyone.

Good Luck,

Paul
