Interesting article at autosinsider.com:
http://www.detnews.com/2005/autosinsider/0.../C01-154989.htm
We all knew it was coming sooner or later.
Check out this interesting tidbit:
"Speculation about Atlanta has centered on production of a sport wagon and a pair of Lincoln cars based on the underpinnings of the Ford Five Hundred sedan. "
The bit about the Lincoln's I've already heard, they're talking about the next continental (replacing the town car) and the next LS (probably with a different name?). But this sport wagon business... that's the first time I've heard mention of that. Sounds cool to me, a wagon for those who don't want a Semi-SUV Ã* la Freestyle. I'm guessing that if they're talking about Lincoln's based on the 500 platform, this wagon would also be based on the 500. I think what would make more sense is a smaller sport wagon based on the fusion/mazda6 platform (there's already a mazda6 wagon). But hey, my Dad has been clinging onto these '89, '91 crown vic wagons as there hasn't been a full sized wagon since. And I don't think he'd like the almost SUV-tall Freestyle, so maybe this could finally be the car for him.
I think a wagon more or less the size of the V70 would make most sense.

Oh humm... Didn't look too sporty. They're calling the Fairlane the Freestar replacement, I think this'll be something else.
Of course its still just speculation, but it shows ford is thinking it needs an actual wagon as well, instead of these tall crossover things, which will make my pops quite happy.

Taurus is an awesome car, too bad its over. I'm still looking for 1995 Ford Taurus SHO to replace 1997 Dodge Intrepid Sport.

Lincoln won't replace the Aviator; they sell way too well.

To add to Tom's post above, they have already shown a concept that tells us what the truck/wagin/whatever will look like. This is not specualtion it is a done deal.

Ya, the new aviator is old news. Old because they actually had the car at the Montreal Auto Show this year, which means its been around well over a year.
