Now Now for something completely different...
Tired of the 2013 Mustang GT (Premium, 6-spd, only option is track pak)...will be gone tomorrow and in its place...
...a new 2016 Subaru WRX 6-spd. 420hp to 270hp...should be interesting change of pace.

Congrats! I came from a 2009 WRX to a 2013 Mustang GT Premium. I miss my WRX. There are pros and cons of both that you will see shortly. Any questions, let me know!

I am also confused. The mpg isn't an improvement and doesn't the wrx come with summer tires? I guess better cornering? But an upgraded suspension on the 5.0 can pretty much turn on a dime so...

Agreed; in black, the Mustang was certainly bad azz looking; no comparison in the looks department although will enjoy polishing the Subie as it has some of the most stunning metallic paint I've seen (Black, of course). Can't wait to see it in sun after strip, clay, Zaino, etc.
FWIW, the Mustang got more attention than wife's 2004 Corvette (Black, of course).
Variety of reasons, actually.
Just not into the Mustang enough anymore to go through the whole pain in the azz of 4-cars, 2-car garage thing. I haven't been able to park in the garage in these NE Ohio winters in over 10 years. Consolidating summer car/winter car into one year round car will save me aggravation.
I work in a seasonal business as well (swimming pool service/repair) so the summer car period (Apr thru Sept) is pretty much sucked up by 6am-6pm workdays, often weekends as well. The Mustang becomes a commuter car then, with the only joy being freeway on-ramps. Other than that, cruise control, freeway drives.
Also, I'm tired of keeping to toys (Vette & Mustang clean); love black cars, hate washing cars and with all it's nooks and crannies, the Mustang, to me, is a pain in the azz to wash.
Not really buying Subie for 'performance' reasons, obviously it's a downgrade in that specific area. Was looking for a car that can be fun to scoot around in, and somewhat practical is well. Once of the most fun cars I ever had was a 120hp 1994 Ford Escort w/ a 5-spd...little go-kart. I kinda like those kinda cars, hoping Subie is like go-kart with a little more oomph. Mustang always felt like a 'big' car to me.
Yeah, first thing I gotta do is drop $1000 on winter tires/wheels.
Subie over Mustang not an mpg thing, just a 'replace 2 cars with 1 car and still get some sorta entertainment out of it.
Gotta say, if Subaru proves reliable and trouble free, they have some nice AWD 'daily drivers' at attractive price points. Thinking of replacing wife's current winter car (Mazda 3) with an Impreza.
I will miss the 'beater' aspect of my 2005 Saturn Ion (hand-crank windows, no options) winter car as it's nice to have a car you really don't care about, looks wise.
In the end maybe it's just laziness; tired of moving cars around, parking cars on grass (which is certainly not good for them), winter storage considerations, etc. I'm sure the neighbors ain't gonna miss the 5am startups of the Mustang w/ the Bassani's.
Not gonna mod the WRX, kinda outta that game as well. Only thing done to the Mustang was the Bassani axle-back's although the Vette has the whole long tube headers, cold-air-induction, cat-back, dyno tune thing going on. Can always turn to it should I need an infusion of torque for a day.
May be back in the Mustang game, certainly like them as I have had a 1990 LX 5.0, 2008 GT and 2013 GT. Not sure what/why but *nothing* sounds as cool as a Mustang w/ the right mufflers.
In the end, for whatever reason, the Mustang just wasn't as fun anymore so I went with something that has some fun, yet can be used year round as well.

Became boring and I hated the major understeer of the awd and just was not willing to mod the heck out of it. Hated the turbo lag under 3500rpm but they addressed that with the new wrx with the twin scroll turbo. The seats in the STI I had were also horrible. Slid all over the place in tight turns. Stereo sucked, interior rattled to no end, and the driver controlled center diff is a joke for anything other than rally racing which nobody is doing. After owning it for two years I honestly could not understand all of the hype over the STI.

Wow. I kid you not, this is freaky because I was JUST going to post a thread in the chat section about me getting an STI for my new "daily". I differ from your situation because I'm keeping the mustang (I love my pony) forever, but am ready to get rid of my Acura for the STI. My logic is to have a fun daily driver I can pick up the kids in and scoot them around in winter.
Dave can you please elaborate on the pros and cons of the subie?
Wayne... I didn't know you disliked your STI that much. As per above, I'm thinking about getting rid of my daily Acura for a 2015 or 2016 STI. My buddy owns the 2015 STI and its modified with 12k worth of parts and immaculate. Or I can get a bone stock 2016. Thoughts?

Yes the STI can do some amazing things in the hands of a professional driver on a snow course or a dirt trail but 99.9% of us are not professional rally drivers and will most likely never use it for what it was intended for. If I needed to do it again because I had to have a 4 door awd car I would 1000% just get the wrx over the STI. But that's just me. Hopefully they have addressed the rattles. Drove me nuts.

Why not a Golf R? Year-round driveability, better interior than an STi, less boy-racer attitude. And though not a diesel, might be able to take advantage during negotiation with VW's PR reeling.

Was also not enough power. A stock 5.0 will put down almost 100whp more stock than a stage 2 sti (tune, downpipe, intake and exhaust ). And best part was my payment went down from the STI. Another thing I could never understand, not sure if it was the wing or something else but women seemed to hate my STI, on the flip side they seem to love the mustang.

So you had a 12? How soon did it start rattling? What rattled? You didn't take it in to get repaired? My wife's Toyota and my Acura also had rattles and it drove me nuts. We took it to the dealer under warranty and had them address. It's still not 100% fixed. Ugh. Did you get yours fixed?
That's the shocking thing about the rattles you mentioned. I thought subie was top 5 in quality etc. but it has rattles?
As for power... You're right, it's no mustang in stock form. I get that. But just like anything, it can be modded. Also it weights less and has 4 doors.

Thanks for chiming in. The rattles are what I'm hoping you could elaborate on. I'm a stickler for quality especially with the interior. The mustang, believe it or not, after 4 years, has no rattles etc. I guess maybe my Corsas and blower are helping hide it if there are

You bring up a very good point. How much are they? 35ish? 4 doors I hope???

If you are going to want to race the thing at all spend the extra and go with the STI. For the extra money you are getting bigger engine, upgraded suspension and brakes, bigger wheels and tires, stronger clutch, trans, and better differentials.

That's not bad then. I need to examine those. But I'm guessing speed and reliability wise, it'd be similar to the STI.
Yeah I had a 3rd gen rx7 before so I know about turbo lag...it wasn't there right away when you need, but then again it was fun when it did hit! Lol. As for getting the subie, it will definitely be the STI. I'm not considering the wrx at all.
The rattling part is disturbing. Seriously though? You had rattles when new?????? I'll be driving my buddy's car today or tomorrow. I'll check for rattles. Yours was a 12? Perhaps they improved on quality and design since then?
The whole interior rattled from day one. Very cheap plastics were used and it rattled from everywhere, dash, doors, console, etc.... There was no repairing it. Common thing. They all had it. Not sure about newer ones. Other thing I did not like regarding power was it had zero power unless you kept it above 3500rpm. Today on my way to work I had to slow down. Was in third gear. RPMs dropped to under 1000rpm. Road opened and just accelerated without downshifting. Try that in an STI and there is nothing. It's dead till that turbo hits. I have been in modified ones with as much as 500whp and yeah they are fast but the faster you make those cars the worse they become as daily drivers. They advertise 4.7 0-60 for the car. That's if and only if you are willing to dump the clutch at 5000rpm everytime which most wont.. Otherwise it's a mid 5 sec car at best. Only thing I liked better on the STI was the brakes. Not so much the stopping power but the feel.

My WRX had no rattles and was 3 years old with 70000 miles on it when I sold it. The WRX was dead reliable when I had it.
Pros for the WRX would be: AWD (floor it in the rain and you actually go somewhere), Outward Visibility, Handling (best attribute IMO), its really the jack of all trades vehicle, usable seats/trunk, resale value, and more HP for little money.
Cons would be: Ride quality, that handling comes at a cost. Be prepared to become what feels like a bobble head when going down the road. Terrible gas mileage, especially the STi. The econobox roots will rear its ugly head (shifter placement isn't "sports car like", cheap plastics everywhere). The throws on my WRX were so long and vague. The mustang shifter is 10x better than my WRX stock. EJ257 (STI engine) is a terribly outdated, 2004 technology, and in need of a refresh. Maintenance-spark plugs, tranny fluid, brake fluid, and rear diff fluid at 60k (from what I remember). If you want over 350-400 Whp you will have to build the block.
Despite all of the cons its a great vehicle. Very reliable and is absolutely amazing in the snow.

Btw, your thoughts on this... My buddy is selling me his 15 STI base for 39k with only 4K miles but these mods
Intake
Down pipe
Id1000s
Air oil sep
Sway bar and end links
Turbo back exhaust
Boost controller
Gauge pods etc
Stage 2 Cobb tune for E85 or 91
