No 2010 Camaro Production at NAIAS

As per Scott on Z28:
No production Camaro -- but there WILL be something else there (not Camaro) that we think you're gonna like.........
So when are they gonna show it?

If it goes job1 in Nov/Dec of 08.... and its not shown at autoshows this year?!?!

Same thing goes with the 2010 Mustang.
If its Job1 is around the same time...and they aren't showing it at the autoshow, when?!?!?

My guess, Maximum Bob is cooking up more Aussie rebadges or possibly something aimed at the Challenger.

My guess are the upcomming SS Colorado (saw it in a promotion video but he wouldn't talk on it), or the Impala SS. Theres a bunch of "performance" lines comming by then.

They must be holding their cards close to the vest, so to speak. Perhaps they're going to show it at the Woodward Dream Cruise or something...

The Camaro is based on the new platform developed in Australia, and from what I understnd it's still experiencing setbacks.

But who knows it could all just be smoke to build more anticipation for the reveal.

Woodward is in August, there's no way they'd sit on it for 8 months just to make an entrance, especially with the NAIAS mdeia blitz being about 100 times larger than Woodward's. If they're not at NAIAS, its becuase they're not ready.

3 years, 2 (or 3 if it shows something else this year) concepts... and still no production shot

It's gettin old. If it's so close to the concept, when we finally see it everyone will be bored with it since its been on the show scene in concept form for so long...

None of the concepts have been built on the platform it will use, and I suspect the info that the platform still isn't ready is true

The Zeta platform is new, but not 2010 Camaro new.
Current Holden cars are using it already.

They have mules out testing (pics were posted on Camaro sites) of Ed Welburn hugging the production styled car in camo.

Well, didn't they announce that it would go into production there?

Yes, but where did the car itself debut? Woodward's a good venue for telling us what we already know, Camaro production was a foregone conclusion. But for the real earth-shattering news and debuts you use NAIAS, Frankfurt, LA, etc.

I'm bored of the camaro concept already. it has way to much 1969 camaro in it. its kinda like been there seen that, where the mustang blends so many great things i just never seem to get tired of seeing it.

I like the 1st-gen Camaro - the only one that make me look away from Mustangs, if only for a moment. =) Maybe GM really wants to get this done right?

Done right by showing it 3 years too early....and making us bored with it before it even comes out???

If they showed the concept this year for the first time and said 'Its coming out as a 2010 in Jan 09..... what really would they have lost?
The 2008 Challenger won't be out yet, and the Mustang for 2010 hasn't been shown.

They could haven shown the coupe and vert (like Ford did in 04) and gotten a GREAT reaction and kept the hype train rolling into next years launch.

But now, we are 3 years later..2 concepts later..seeing it in a movie in a form that will look LIKE it but with subtle changes....
Not a smart move

I want it to survive to keep healthy competition (whether you or I like it or not..) but I fear that only the faithful and a small handfull will buy them.
They have followers and such, but a Mustang is in a different league when numbers and passion are concerned.

Must be a brand loyalty thing. The Mustang and Camaro are almost identical in the fact that they are not full blown retro but have many retro clues of their previous selves. The Mustang looks just as retro to me as the Camaro. not a mirror image of the design cues but very heavily influenced by them. Same overall shape but a little larger and more updated on both. Front ends are both are just updated styles of their cues. On the Camaro side the rear is less 69 than the mustang is 65. Interior is anyone's call as no shots of a production interior is put out yet . The Challenger on the otherhand is full blown retro. Kind of ****es me off that it was a concept after but will make production before My Camaro.

It may have been around a long time, but this thing still blows me away!

Whenever the Camaro hits the streets, its gotta be a good thing for Mustang fans. If it's a "better" car than the Mustang, that's gonna sting....but Ford will retaliate with an improved Mustang and that's good for us.

I have a feeling that the camaro is going to be "better" then the stang, but i also feel that it will have a larger price so i still count that as a win for the stang.

Yep, almost without doubt. Still, I'm sure GM will counter that the higher price accounts for a more premium car and that they're not going for the lead in the sales charts.

I don't care. I'm a huge Mustang fan, but I love all muscle cars, so I'm going to enjoy all the Mustang/Camaro/Challenger banter

By the time Camaro hits the street (on a 3 year old body style already)
the Mustang will show its redesign and in 2012 there will be an all new Mustang while the Camaro will be half way through its production cycle. Who's coming out ahead again? FORD!
