So is this really a paint or is it some kind of plastic or resin coating?

I often wonder why cars aren't just covered in some thin vinyl or plastic these days instead of a paint topcoat. They could just put a white primer/basecoat on the car then do something like the vinyl wraps used for advertising. I've seen some cars that were covered with a vinyl wrap that looks like it was painted on.

Yea and what happens over 10 years in socal sun. I remember the first versions of clear coat paint, after a few years you could peel off your own chunk and show it to your friends without them having to leave thier house. Cool idea, but you still need to just take care of your car. And what happens when you wax it or it gets damaged?

Don't worry, I'm a patent examiner and I know that simply having a patent does not automatically mean the technology is always 100% applicable in real world.
