Nissan GT-R Obliterates the Competition!
From Top Gear >>
"I rode shotgun as the Stig thraped the GT-R for 20 minutes, absolutely flat-out"
Forget all that you think you know. The GT-R hasn't just moved the goalposts, it's obliterated them. Bill Thomas is overwhelmed.
...This car has no competitors. Not at any price.

I know little about this car but I assume it's FWD? I don't care for the cars lines much (especially knowing they were inspired by the Anime Gundam ) still I seriously doubt the car "not having any competitors at any price" My GT fit my budget any more and I would not have been able to aford it so unless they are bringing this out for under 36K (yeah right) it's going to be out of the affordable rang for alot of wanna be boy ricers.

Its AWD and most of why the car is what it is. It's not more powerful than the porsche turbo just easier to use and maintain the speeds. I'd probably be able to post the same time at a track as a pro driver with it. Awsome machine I'll give it that but I'll pass on this one. No competitors at any price? I'll let him (the cocky brit) keep his opinion 7:38 is not the best time at the ring so he can't back that statement up. Wouldn't turn down a free one but wouldn't buy one either.

Needs to be more Astony
It is definnatly a fast car and being that it was built to beat the 911 turbo theres no reason why it wouldn't if thats was the goal.
Anyone know what the drag coefficent of a Z06 is?

The GTR is a very fast car--and looks to be a great bang-for-the-bucks ride. It is certainly impressive that the GTR can produce the performance at the MSRP, that's awesome. But, I think 'obliterates' is an example of hyperbole.
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/112_0512_exotic_sport_coupes_comparison/specs_price.html
The link shows a test of the 2006 Z06 Corvette, base price $65,800 (4K cheaper than the GTR, as tested $68,700, still less than the GTR). The Z06 only posted (only?) 3.8 from 0-60, but the quarter mile time for the Z06 tested that day was 11.6 @ 126.6, the same ET as the GTR and at a 6mph higher trap speed. The AWD shows to an advantage in the 0-60 times, by an incredible half-second, but for the Z06 to make up that half-second in the quarter shows the Corvette acelerating much faster than the GTR past the initial launch. I'm at at loss to see how the GTR 'obliterates' a Z06 when the two cars show the same ET. If anything this illustrates how good performance can be in a N/A small block.
It is also interesting to note in the testing of the GTR in Japan (Edmunds Inside Line), through the cones, where you would expect the AWD GTR to really shine, the Dodge Viper (by all accounts, an uforgiving beast) beat the GTR.
When summer rolls around and the GTR hits the shores, the ZR1 will also be rolling out. I look forward to seeing a head-to-head comparo. I expect the GTR to excel, but I'm not sure it will obliterate the competition.

amazing what a crapload of computers can do for a car.
and it does this all and still looks like crap in the process LOL
I'm expecting the GTR to excell as an overall car and only because of the computers in it.
I think as a brute force comparison the GTR will come up very short on alot of lists
I expect the ZR1 to trounce it

Hes not hard to impress just show up in a BMW (of any kind) . He'd probably take a lowly 318i over a Z06, Ford GT, or any other foreign job (foreign to the EU) out there. I've not been impressed with his opinions yet.

One need only to find the video on fquick where he (well both clarkson and the Stig) test out the new VXR8 where he (Clarkson) explicitly states with BMW you are paying for a badge and even though the VXR8 impressed him to the fullest performance, comfort, and price wise he would still chose the more expensive BMW even though he stated that the VXR8 was a BMW M5 at half the price with less fuss. Clarkson that is the stig had no problems with the car either and I'm sure he hasn't vocalized anything yet but he was having fun in the CV8.

I would never take Clarkson's opinion on ANYTHING seriously - he's entertaining because he goes out of his way to deliberately make controversial statements.

Though most of the audience they play to wouldn't catch the dumb-a$$ goof, stated in a punctilious British accent, that the GT500 uses the same engine as the Ford GT, it becomes glaring obvious they have little or no clue there is any difference in a 5.4 iron-block and a limited production aluminum block 5.4. If only Ford had of used the GT motor for the GT500! (Of course adding a $34K motor to the GT500 might have jacked the price a little.)
