Nissan GT-R: 0-60 in 3.3 seconds!

Quarter: 11.6 @ 121 MPH. Blows the Z06 and Porsche 911 Turbo away - for about the same money as the Z06.

Ummm . . . C/D tested a Z06 at 11.7 @ 125 MPH. I wouldn't say that is "blowing" the Z06 away . . .

Still the GT-R is very impressive!

Impresive numbers but AWD is like putting slicks on a car and that electronic launch control that does all the work for you is lame too. I wanna see how well it does in the twisties vs the Z06.

alll in all pretty impressive for a 3800+lbs car.

Impressive, yes, but I HIGHLY doubt you would touch one of these cars for not much less than $100,000 (including a dealer markup that is. And you know it will have one)! I just saw a Jetstream Blue ZO6 on Saturday. Owner stopped in to look at the Ford GT. That color is AMAZING!!! I don't like vettes that much, but I'll take that car.

Other than being a "butter face" -- everything's nice but her face -- it seems to be a very impressive car for a very reasonable price. Can't wait for the obvious comparo tests now that there is a genuine Japanese super car again (after the demise of the NSX).

its not just a butter face, the interior isnt worth the 70K either, and very little room for anyone tall. Im only 6' and I couldnt fit, seats were uncomfortable as well.

as for performance, Ill wait until it hits the road to see what it really does. Manufactures definitily cant be trusted and mags are always skewed, that and everytime I see a vid or read about a test drive it always states somewhere that the Nissan engineer comes over and tweaks the comp before letting anyone drive it....its cool that the car might be capable of doing what they claim with some tweaking of the comp, but who knows what tweaking they are doing and if the car will come setup that way or able to make the same settings.

Well, if you watch that video, Nissan gave a 0-60 claim of 3.5 seconds, and Edmunds' testers managed it in 3.3 seconds, which is exactly the opposite of what usually happens.

I think what makes the car impressive is the OVERALL performance (acceleration, handling, braking, 2+2 ability, etc.) for the money. Nothing can touch it. And so far, it will blow any American performance car out of the water, with the possible exception of the Ford GT, which costs more than twice as much.

To be fair, it's 3.3 seconds with launch control, 4.0 seconds without. Impressive either way, of course. If they could just do something about the awful styling this car would be perfect.

the 2+2 feature is useless in this car, there isnt any room in the back seats for even groceries. Ive sat in one and with the seat shoved all the way back I still band my knees on the steering wheel

and Id still like to see it go up against the Z06. from the sounds of it without the computer basically driving the car its falls into a much more normal category which would be more realistic to expect from the HP/weight stats. I bet if you put a pro driver in a Z06 or 997TT it would match or best the computer of the GTR.

Yeah, what's performance matter anyways, it's not like this is a Mustang forum or something.

9 times out of 10 I'll take performance over looks but in this case blah. That AWD is what beats the Z06 in the 1/4 it doesn't blow it away. Inches past yes. Alas the 125 vs the 121 trap speeds indicates to me that the Z06 still has a better power to weight and anything outside of the obvious traction issues would vaporize with a set of slicks. Not knocking it performance wise though it is very impressive in that category. I'd love to see that 476/3868 vs the 500/3100 on a road course, or even with just a good set of dr's on the track in the straights awd is a good equalizer to lesser hp to weight but it is not the magic bullet.

See, i think that this is why import/Domestics are so divided. the Skyline is not "Rice" as you say...It has a heritage in Japan that rivals any american car. Around since '57....Yea, a civic with a huge spoiler for downforce and a fart can with an automatic...yea thats "Rice".....Educate yourself...
I love mustangs as much as the next guy on here, but i've learned to look outside the bubble.

As I'm an owner of 240z, you don't have to tell me about getting educated on Nissans... They were orginally Prince Skylines (~60-90 thundering horsepower!) before Prince merged with Nissan in the late '60s.

Skylines have always been a line of mostly low performance sedans, coupes, and wagons (like the US Ford Fairlane line or the Australian Falcon line, or even the Ford Escort family) with a high performance model (the GT-R) added later. This was true up until the '90s when the wagons were dropped and the sedans and coupes became more performance oriented. The current Skyline is sold as the G35 and G37 here in the US. There's still some debate as to whether the new GTR will be considered part of the Skyline family.

The Mustang, on the other hand, has always been a sporty car. So that's why the Skyline is not quite as "legendary".

It works both ways though. Try telling that to import lovers who think an S197 Mustang will crash and burn at the first sharp turn in the road because "American cars only go fast in a straight line" and that the "gas guzzler" V8 still has pushrods, and "All American cars are junk".
