p.s. In a few years, Buick will be competing with Lincoln. Lincoln needs a new sedan with the LS's chassis and a powerful V-8.

Well, plain jane hasn't worked for Pontiac. I wonder if they'll go back to the Batmobile look again?

I guess they didn't see the success the mustang had, but then again they might not wanna copy Ford again...like the Mustang Camaro pony car race, the Ranchero and the El Camino...etc...notice Chevy(along with GM) just followed the trend)

IMHO they have to do SOME retro or it will stink. I mean look at how cool the new Stang and GT are. Then theres the GR-1, heck evrything is retro rightnow.

I think Pontiac is going to have to be real careful with the redesign. They've already alienated some GTO lovers with the current model. If they produce another unpopular design, it'll be the last nail in the coffin.

I wrote Pontiac last night about making a better GTO, something retro, and here is what they said

Thank you for contacting Pontiac and for your interest in the Pontiac GTO! We
acknowledge and appreciate your loyalty to General Motors, and thank you for
your comments regarding the 2005 GTO. Pontiac chose not to produce a
retro-inspired GTO for several reasons. Recent history has shown that some
retro-inspired designs have difficulty maintaining sales after the first year.
Pontiac is moving toward cleaner overall designs. We believe that if the GTO
had stayed in production it would have naturally evolved toward this
contemporary and modern design. For more information on the 2005 GTO, please
continue to visit www.pontiac.com or consult your preferred dealership.

The "maintaining sales" comment is kinda funny considering their current situation.

Well if you take into account the beetle and the pt cruiser, a lot of retro designs have flopped...

PT Cruiser was seriously hot until the last couple years, and the Beetle has done decently well. Retro is in, but it has to be foward-thinking retro, not retro for retro's sake.

Well I think a retro GTO would be a hit. Look at the new Stang and Ford GT, people have been frothing at the mouth waiting for them to arrive. Why Pontiac wouldnt want similar success eludes me.

The next GTO doesn't necessarily need to be retro, but it would be nice if it had some character, clean crisp lines and a chiselled look to it.

That's true in most cases but I don't believe it will hold true for the Mustang. The design of the 60's Mustangs is still very popular. I think the new Mustangs will continue to sell well.

The PT cruiser needs a V8 and rwd.
the GTO has the motor, now it needs looks to go along with its power and sound.

I think the 05 Mustang is awesome but what will the next one look like??

If Pontiac can make a car like the 2006 Solstice, then I doubt the next-generation GTO will look as bland as the current one.

Ya there are always exceptions and i definately believe the new mustang is one of them. My dad is a life long mustang hater and he loves the new one

yeah, that and an interior and seats that don't scream MINIVAN WITH LESS SEATS

i've sed it before n ill say it agin, GTO would have sold soo much more if it wasnt called the GTO. thats it.

they need alot of work for exterior design, but also, i find the interior kind of nice. and one more thing, why does the GTO have a 6 speen manual as an option for like $600? arent most cars manual standard? that bugged me a bit.
