I saw one in a local Chevy dealship the other day, it seems bigger than the current Impalas. Doesn't look bad, would I buy one...no.

Chevy introduced SS Impala with 5.3L a while ago. Monte Carlo SS will get same engine.

The 5.3L Impala SS is 2006 model so it can't be that old.

2005 LA Auto Show which was either in March or April, so that story is about 4-5 months old. I remember that Auto Show, because that's when Chevy introduced HHR.

They didn't have that much power though...
Earlier SHO's were 3.0L V6s
220hp with 200ftlbs
later v8 versions were.
3.4L V8
235HP and 230Ftlbs of Torque
VS a 5.3L V8 with 303hp
Big difference....

this time out of curiosity, where the heck did they get a 3.4L V8? is it just one of Fords V6s with an extra two cylinders attached or is it like from one of the PAGs (hehe, i know what that is now! lol)
i hardly think that they would design an all new motor for one car.... just wondering

Yamaha my friend...yes..yamaha...
The V6 was made manufactured by Yamaha with specs from Ford. The SHO V6 shared a few things with the 3.0 Vulcan V6 block, but it was basically a new block. The bore centers and bellhousing pattern is shared with the Vulcan V6. The size of the block is also very similar. Everything else was done by Yamaha.
In 1996 the Ford Taurus was redesign and a new SHO was released. This time with a V8. The motor was built and designed by Ford and Yamaha. Ford wanted a V8 into the Taurus to bring the Taurus to a new level. Ford cast the block with the "Cosworth Process". It was based on the Duratec 2.5 litre V6 with two additional cylinders in the middle. After the short block was complete, it was sent over to Yamaha. From there, Yamaha created the heads and completed the motor for Ford.
