Good news, maybe the new Goat will actually get Pontiac on the road back to its "we build excitement" roots.

Inside Line, an automotive Website produced by CNN.com automotive partner Edmunds.com, is reporting that the new GTO could be a four-door car with a coupe-like profile. Inside Line did not cite a source for that information.
Four doors? Ugh...that better not come to pass.
Unless the rear doors were those clamshell "half doors" as seen on cars like the RX-8, which could be executed well.

Edit: There's news on this over at the Detroit Free Press as well, which claims that sales of this year's 2005 GTO have "taken off" and are up 87% over the '04. I had no idea, given that I've only ever seen one 2005 on the road.

Didnt read that part. I hope they stay with 2 doors. And agree if they do go with 4, they better execute it perfectly like the RX-8 did!
It isnt a surprise the new GTOs are selling better since they have more horsepower and you can choose some appearence packages

I think sticking to two doors is the way for GM to go with it. I hope the new redesign is more exciting like they predict>

i think if they can pull off the four doors like the RX-8, its a good call, it would probably attract customers. the mazda certainly doesn't suffer in the style department.

Also not surprising with employee pricing.

I think the Corvette was the only vehicle not included. Not that the GTO wasn't offered at huge discounts prior to this promotion.

Edit: I went to the Pontiac Site, and the GTO's arent part of the Employee Discount.

So it must be the higher HP and the new appearence options lol. Can't forget about the better advertising though

but they are so bland, i dont understand how the sales would spike. i saw a 04 gto the other day and the only reason i relized what it was is because it had a throaty exhaust note. it isnt a a muscle car, the new charger is far better.

keep in mind the original GTO didnt stand out that much, basically a rebadged LeMans with a big engine. same sort of thing here, rebadged Monaro, with a big engine

well the 05 gto's are better looking than the 04's, especially because of the appearance packages.

Doesn't matter. The GTO isn't famous for what it started as, but what it became.

Why? This one is crap. If they redesign it, it won't be this one anymore, it'll be a new car. This one was so heavily discounted and rebated that the depreciation is huge and it doesn't hold its value. It won't be a collector's piece outside of enthusiasts. If they build a decent vehicle in 2008, more power to them, but I seriously question GM's ability to do what needs to be done, as well as their outright capability to price it competitively.

The looks may be bland to some, but it's far from crap.
Great engine, great interior, great fit and finish.
Like B.J. said, sales did rise 87 percent, so GM did something right with it this year.

Although I agree with you that GM has been very very bad with their new cars (outside of the Solcstice and Sky). Bad designs, crappy to almost no ads, and late reaction to competitors.

The yellow ones are pretty. I went through a pretty heavy must have a GTO phase before I came to my senses.
