A New Ford Employee Trashes His New Employer

You know, it's sad, but when you get out of our Ford/Mustang enthusiast community, you really get a sense of how the outside world perceives Ford...and the company has GOT to change that perception, or it will die.

This really demonstrates the uphill battle Ford is facing >> http://info.detnews.com/autostalk/le...new%20graduate

There's not a single shred of proof that this guy actually works for Ford (or has even graduated from junior high school for that matter...).

I agree Ford doesn’t have a wonderful reputation outside of certain oriented communities, but . . . . . **** BC!! That’s reaching even for you . . . .

Actually, somebody sent me this one. Didn't have to go digging it out myself.

Putting an extra 'c' in Acura seems more like a typo than a mispelling, and certainly not a reason to think he didn't graduate from high school. Also, he says his degree is a Masters of Science. In my experience, spelling isn't necessarily the long suite of science graduates.

Assuming the worst - that he is just bullsh*tting and trash talking - he is still a potential consumer with an opinion.

And if he is employed there, and I see no reason to believe he's not, well...

In my opinion, he just sounds like someone that doesn't like domestic cars. Here's my question, why would he take a job with a company of a product that he doesn't like?

Secondly, what's the point of stating "Everyone I work with is upset because the old crows are getting pushed out. Many of them never even went to college. " What is his point here? Either a.) I would think that if Ford is so "uncool", he'd be happy that they are going to be replacing older, higher paid employees with younger, less expensive ones to bring in new ideas. or b.) he's trying to point out that few people at Ford went to college and that they are a "stupid" company.

Thirdly, the cars that he is talking about purchasing, either an Acura TL (and at first I would agree that it was a typo on Acura, until I saw that he misspelled it twice) which bases at $36k or a Honda Civic, who's EX model bases at $18k make me wonder if he really knows anything about cars or finance at all. Honestly, outside of High School, I don't know any "hotties" that even look twice at either of those model cars, unless they have the big fart can on the back. Then it's more a look of annoyance. Personally, I'd think twice about getting involved with a girl that only likes me because of my car. That just sets a bad tone for the relationship, if you want to call it that. Heck, you could just go to a strip club, hand over your money for some booty shaking and not get any of the emotional baggage. lol

Lastly, one thing that BC said is correct....domestics DO have a bad reputation for quality. I was talking to my boss about my car the other day, having to put it in the shop for a Camshaft Positioning Sensor replacement, which is supposed to be a common issue with the 3.8 liter V6's. He tells me, "Well, that's a Ford for you." We got into a whole discussion about quality and craftmanship of domestics vs. foreign cars, price points and whatnot. I told him that as long as I've owned this car, it's the first time I've had it in the shop for something significantly wrong with it, and it only cost $68.00, with labor. My last car, a Volkswagon Jetta GLX, was in the shop every other month for various issues, which costed me a TON of money. For me, buying domestic was a very nice change.

ALL of the domestic car manufacturers need to do a better job of getting the message out there about improved quality and reliability.

C'mon BC....I have to agree with Capri and say this is definately "reaching for it"

It is simply ridiculous to think that, because this guy might have a job with Ford, he should be all too happy to pledge allegiance to Dearborn. Using the same logic you applied here Toyota must then be on the way out as a brand despite their current profitability since I worked for that company for quite some time and the only new Toyota products I would consider buying are the Land Cruiser or a Lexus (excepting the ES)

In fact, the brand must really be hurting when you consider the fact that I was treated well, enjoyed my time working there, and could easily walk back through those doors and start right where I left off if I chose to. I simply feel now, as I did then, that a goodly portion of their cars are over-rated in terms of quality and execution for many reasons. And I know several people who work/worked for that company in complete agreement with my feelings toward the majority of Toyota product.

What does this prove? My guess is that it proves people have preferences and opinions, and that people largely believe what they want or are pre-conditioned to about a given brand, but not much else. Of course, if posted on a Toyota site I suppose it could prove that Toyota's current peak as an auto brand is certain to be short-lived and that the brand is seen in a horrible light universally by employees of the same.

Outside of Michigan, the only people who drive Ford cars are illegals and the poor.

I'm going to call B.S. on whoever wrote that letter

No one with a master's degree would have such a sloppy writing style.

I cannot argue with that. The writing style does not lend itself to someone with a Masters degree.

BC, please do us a favour, if you are going to post links like that, please make sure they are verifiable first. I wouldn't class anything on a forum or message board as verifiable, and I think that the above link proves that.

BC Shelby's Golden Rules for any Information Concerning Ford:
  1. Anything posted on the internet about Ford that is negative is automatically TRUE. Though it could be a blog written by a 12 year old auto industry expert during study hall, or some troll looking to get a rise out of people on an anonymous message board, don't bother verifying that it is factual. Beleive it with all your heart and soul!
  2. Any positive news about Ford or any Ford product is automatically FALSE. It's all a LIE! If anyone brings up any actual FACTS that might prover otherwise, facts can easily be ignored or twisted to support your position. Remember, Ford is not run by Japanese or Germans, therefore, they can't do anything right.

"Outside of Michigan, the only people who drive Ford cars are illegals and the poor."
The 2nd most insane statement I have ever seen. The poor would come closer to driving a $15k Civic than a $25-$30k Mustang.

"Can you imagine me picking up a hottie driving a Ford?"
I can't imagine this guy picking up a "hottie" at all.

"Mustangs are perfect if you are over 60."
The most insane statement I have ever seen. I get compliments from people as young as 8 or 10 and as old as 80+, with the most intense reactions come from the younger generation.

"Do you think they will fire me if I get a TL?"
Has driving a car from the MFG you work for EVER been a requirement

"Everyone I work with is upset because the old crows are getting pushed out. Many of them never even went to college."
This statement has to do with what ??

If this is the mentality of the younger generation then I am afraid we are in trouble.

The article is a bit fishy, i smell a rat. He has a point that a person looking to buy an Acura TL or Altima wouldn't be interested in Ford. Too bad he ruins his point by making an outrageous comment that only illegals and the poor drive Fords. Admittedly, Ford doesn't have a good alternative to the Acura and Altima. I drove an 06 Fusion as a loaner, it had good power, but the styling was way off. I remember thinking, i hope no one i know sees me in this. One thing i do know, the mustang is killer and the F150 trucks are killer.

Neil, what type of Fusion were you driving, the base S model? And what part of the styling seemed "way off"? I'm curious about what it was that you didn't like. The car has received postive raves so far.

Many of Ford's problems can be traced to far too many "book smart" college grads who have no idea how a car company works-no offense intended to all you grads out there! Many of the "old crows" out there have far more automotive knowledge than many degreed engineers I have dealt with in this business!
Clearly the generator of the DetNews forum post is a charlatan!!

I don't know what model of Fusion it was. It was a demo and loaner while i had work done on my mustang. It had black leather seats, auto trans, and a v6. I liked the power and handling, but didn't like the styling. I don't like the analog clock on the dash. I didn't like the wheels. I didn't like the big chrome grill. I'm comparing it to Acura and Nissan, both of which I have driven, the styling was not as sporty. My wifes car is Maxima. When buying her car it came down to the Acura TL and the Maxima. We chose the maxima because we owned one previously and were happy with it and had no problems. My mustang is the 5th Ford vehicle I've owned, so it's not like I have a bias against American cars.

Styling is a very subjective thing. It's nearly impossible to design a car that everyone loves. However, based upon how well the Fusion is selling, you might be in the minority in this case and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

In other words, the Fusion just isn't your cup of tea.
