New BMW concept, future 8-series?
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/19/s...mw-cs-concept/
I feel like this is the first time in a while we've seen something really new from BMW. For me, the 6-series was the last time i really got excited about anything from BMW.
So this is obviously going right after that high-end, four door 'coupe' segment, sorta like the MB CLS, but Autoblog is guessing this is aimed higher, more like the upcoming AM Rapide and Porsche Panamera. I think this is a cool new segment of cars, although that Porsche sedan is looking a lot chunkier in spy photos than it did in concept sketches, which is against the idea of this kinda car, to me. I like these cause they're big cars without being bulky, and they're nice and low. To me, the Jag XJ almost seemed like the first step towards this, being a lot less bulky than the 7-series and S-Class. But then the Maserati Quattroporte really went for sporty, followed by the CLS (which i find kinda ugly, especially the slope of the tail), and now all out sports car companies like AM and Porsche are joining in.
The other cool thing is that, while the new M3 gets the M5's V10 chopped down to a V8, this thing gets two cylinders added to make a 6.0 V12. The 4.0 V8 gets 400hp, the 5.0 V10 gets 500hp, so 600hp probably ain't a bad guess for the V12.
I hope this thing makes it to product, it'd be pretty cool. I am a fan of Mr. Bangle and I like where he's going with BMW's latest.

I quote "Although his previous designs have been met with mixed reactions, designer Chris Bangle continues to use "flame surfacing" for complex curves that wouldn't have been possible with old manufacturing techniques."

I didn't read it. I guess perhaps he's learned that most people can't stand his original design cues. This car doesn't even look like anything he'd done previously.

gasp.... Its a Bangle'd Mechanical Wreck that I actually like?!?!
Honestly, its a pretty cool looker. And +1 to all you old school 8 series fans. Behind the original M3 and the M coupe/roadster, that is my next favorite Bimmer of all time

The side profile of the front looks just like an Aston Martin.
this looks more fitting as a 750i.. just throw in another pair of door handles for the back.. i don't like it :S

Its Bangled alright. Looks like it has Lexus identity crisis, and the uplifted tips on the tail and the mirrors look like some fairy from an anime cartoon. Lots of creases and folds reminiscent of older Korean designs that Bangle loves so much. Personally I think the Z8 will be the last beautiful BMW for a long time, as CB wrecked the last of the lookers with the new 3-series. Not to mention prices going into the stratosphere, and MB becoming the HP and style leader doesn't look like a good long-term trend for BMW.

This thing is horrible and seems unlikely to do well to be kind. Compared to this the Z8 was a supermodel on wheels with better proportions and better lines....and that car absolutely tanked. I suppose this car was created in an attempt to answer that burning question' what if the Z8 had been a styling disaster instead of a looker'?
