My Buddy Bought the Challenger Scat Pack

Yesterday one of my good friends bought a brand new Challenger SRT Scat Pack. Naturally we had to take a ride. I have to admit it is a very nice car. He went with the black on black look and it even has subdued black striping. The 6.4 motor pulls very hard. It pulls even if you don't intend for it to under normal acceleration. The motor is rated at 485 hp. The interior is actually very well done as well. It has the Recaro sport seats and integrated touch screen that handles the stereo, climate control, navigation, the whole nine and it's all voice activated.

One thing I did notice that isn't anything against the car but instead a debunk to some claims I have seen on this forum and that is the back seat. There have been posters on this forum that have said they would get the Challenger over the Mustang because they have kids and the Challenger has a much more usable back seat by comparison. No it doesn't. The back seat space in the Challenger is not anything more impressive than the back seat area in a Mustang. It's still pretty tight back there. Now the trunk on the other hand is quite large by comparison.

At any rate, I've always liked the look of the Challenger and the car is definitely powerful. I wouldn't mind owning one.

I was going to buy a 2013 SRT Yellow Jacket before ordering my 2014 Mustang GT. The back seat on the Challenger is a lot bigger in head room and hip room. My Son is 6.4" and he can sit back in the Challenger no problem. In my Mustang he can not. Funny thing is they both look like they have the same room. now in the 2015 Fustang there is no head room in the back and well groceries go good there.

I am still waiting to see what happens in 2016 as I will be ordering a Hellcat to park next to my Mustang. The challenger is a Muscle car. The Mustang has the makings of a good Sports Muscle car.

I agree. Not the best looking car, but one of the best looking.
Especially that Hellcat!

I agree that it's a really good looking car. I think it's the best looking among the Mustang / Camaro / Challenger trio. I'm still just not sure about Chrysler build quality.

I think it IS a big fat turd ^^

Kidding. Faster than my car. And a hell of a lot more comfortable DD. That being said, the body roll must be strong with that one :|

After having an 09 SRT8 based on the looks, creature comforts, and big displacement I have to say I would really have to drive one with the 6.4 before I would buy another because the car struggled to move all that weight with any excitement. The extra torque of the newer engine is really needed trust me. Although no matter what engine choice you go with you'd still have to park it at a marina though, the thing is a boat lol. That said the looks are great just shrink the trunk by a foot and drop 400 lbs.

'Still not sure about the Chrysler build quality' is probably keeping a good number of folks away. Car owners have long memories.

I like the looks of the Challenger and it's performance numbers are nothing to sneeze at. Even the Camaro has merit, and the Corvette is gorgeous. But it's doubtful that I'd ever own any of those though. I'm still stuck in the recent political past with the government bailout thing and for that reason, Chrysler and GM are turn offs to me.

Nice car and not a bad deal for 38k before options or rebates and the GG tax. I priced one out a few hours ago to see how it stacked up compared to the new Mustang GT and the motor is the star for sure since the chassis dates back to the old testament.

Comparably equipped to the GT I ordered it is about the same price although you get hit with a 1,000 dollar GG tax even with a 3.09 final drive.

Entry price is a bit high though, the base Mustang GT undercuts the Scat Pack by a fair bit.

Tough to compare directly since the Scat Pack car sits in between the regular Challenger and the SRT car so its more or less the equivalent of say the Bullitt - nice upgrades but not quite a Boss or a Shelby but more than you would get with the California Special.

Before I ordered my GT I really wanted one. I found out that they have a problem on some cars with dents occurring all by them self. Turns out if has to do with metallurgy and some batches where not up to spec. The heat and cooling of the metal in a garage would cause this denting to the point where by me the local dealer bought back of the SRT's. totally turned me off.
