Here is my list:
Over-rated
1969 Chevrolet Camaro. I never understood why people like this car so much. In my opinion, its one of ugliest muscle cars ever build and the ugliest Camaro ever build.
Under-rated
Probably Toyota Corrola. Those cars can last forever and its one of the best sellers ever; however, people don't appreciate them at all.

Although I like them, Porsches make my over rated list based on their cost. Same for the Dodge Viper.
Most new Kias make my under rated list. Inexpensive and with a 100,000 mile warranty they've really improved the quality. I'd add the VW GTI to this list but I'm afraid it, like most recent and current VWs, has too many reliability issues.
You all may laugh now.

my uncle had a Kia in for repairs, it was a flimsy toy.
Most underrated car is, well you all know what i say, the classic muscle cars predating the pony cars.
over-rated, not pony cars, they were just succesful. i don't know really, I agree with scott on the Viper, such a big engine and it "only" makes 500 horses with a supercharger. The porches are overpriced, but some of them are monstrous cars.

Under-Rated:
1968-70 AMX
These were some awesome automobiles, and not a lot of people know they existed!

Over-Rated:
The Porsche Boxster. IMO the ugliest, dumbest Porsche ever made. :notnice: Created just so more middle aged men can feel better about themselves (but without the crazy performance of past Porsches)

I don't know what year you were born but the 69 Camaro Z28 was one of the top 10 muscle cars of the 60s in my book!

I love the Camaro also! (probably one of my top five muscle cars of all time)
But it's all personal opinion on whether it's ugly or not. Whether you can call a car over-rated just because of it's looks, that's another matter

Underrated: Any good used Merkur Xr4ti w/5speed transmission-Performance, unique styling and great chassis dynamics all rolled into one.
Overrated:BMW's-any model-Haven't been able to apply the term "Ultimate Driving Machine" to any one of them since the 2002 series vehicles or possibly the original 320i.

That's on the fox body chassis like all Sierra's.

A common misconception..Sierra/Merkur XR vehicles are a unique chassis. Traditional MacPherson strut front end with trailing arms and stabilizer bar and multi link rear suspension.
Really miss mine....
Tiberius1701: Are you a classic Star Trek fan by any chance? And I see you are a Rutles fan...and you had an '87 XR4Ti too? We have three things in common already.
"And Stig...sued himself...accidentally."
As for my list of overrated/underrated...let's see. I am going to have to agree with those who have said pretty much any late-model BMW is overrated. Everywhere I go, everybody is spooging over Bimmers, but after riding in a few (gotta admit I never drove one), I came away wholly bored each time. For something calling itself the Ultimate Driving Machine, I expected more panache. Maybe it's hiding in the 6-series? Only recent Bimmer I really loved was the 8-series. Man those were cool.
Most underrated? Hard to say. To me this means a car which I really liked, but which seems universally hated by everyone else. I personally feel that the third-generation Firebird (the Knight Rider era F-body) was pretty underrated. Those cars were aerodynamic brilliance. Mostly looked upon as crapmobiles by the folks I run into, but I still love my '89 Formula 350. It just turned over 227,000 miles too and still smokes 'em when you put your foot in it.
Generally I feel that the Merkur XR4Ti was underrated in general...or more like unknown. It's rare that I encounter anyone who even knows what they are. The one my family had, though, was a lemon. Transmission took a dump within year one, and it was plagued by electrical problems through its entire life. It was so much hassle that we had to get rid of it after 18 months. Sure was a fun car though. Replaced it with an '88 Taurus LX, back when the Taurus was THE family car to own. It was a great car too, but it didn't have a turbo...

The XR4Ti!
I saw one for the first time two days ago. I had no idea what it was until I pulled up alongside of it. It was bright yellow and with what seemed to be an aftermarket body kit, because I searched it online right after.

Most over rated car : Any BMW (my opinion)
Most Underated : None, I think all cars are overhyped.

As for underated: I'm gonna have to say the 1967 Ford Fairlane 427 R code for a muscle car . A lot of people will look at me strange when I bring up the Fairlane as one of my most sought after dream cars. Most likely its due to many people just not knowing about the monsterous power they had. In stock form on stock tires, they ran low 14's in MM&FF with one!
)For just a general vehicle probably the Xr4Ti or perhaps the Ford Festiva. They were actually built by Kia and just ran like the energizer bunny! A lady that my wife works with has one with over 260K on the clock!

 I agree that a lot of these high end luxury cars are very over rated. There are 3 that top my list in general... BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus. They just don't do anything for me personally.

I never drove BMW or Lexus but did drove Mercedes and Audi. Those are awesome cars, in my opinion they're worth every dollar you pay for them.
