First, General Motors Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner got tired of Bob Putz...I mean Clutz...I mean Lutz screwing up virtually every potentially profitable vehicle in the lineup, so he takes over as manager of General Motor North America and his first action is to place a GM corporate badge on every vehicle sold in North America. Why would they want to directly associate every vehicle with the mismanagement at headquarters?

Then they have a new contest to promote OnStar. Unfortunately, the logo for the contest looks like "Hot Butt" instead of "Hot Button." I hope I win!

Yeah, a GM badge on the SAAB will be REAL appealing.

They need to can him ASAP.

Brad, we should have asked him when he plans on retiring.

OH MY GOD!!!!! That's it, I should be hired as "President of Creative Consulting". I can't do any worse then any of those jokers and I'm serious when I say that. That has got to be the worst move ever. I swear they have no idea of what they are doing and they obviously don't care what the buyers are looking for. Two words GM, FOCUS GROUPS!!! Not Chevy, GMC, or Pontiac buyers either......get people off of Toyota, Honda, Ford, Lexus, Nissan and even Hyundai lots.

They'll never put it on a Saab, just like it will not go on the Opels/Vauxhalls. Again, GM show us how to commit corporate suicide.....

Wow, that sounds like a great idea???

These guys go to school that long and come up with ideas like that???

The answer to their problems is simple. Build attractive cars that are reliable and affordable. Problem is there are too many bean counters.

WTF? A "GM" badge will inspire trust like ricer stickers will inspire faster trap times!

In a time when the money-hemorrhaging GM needs to get serious about every expense it undertakes, this seems like a waste of cash to me. You can call your products anything you want, but if they aren't actually what you say (stylish, exciting, well-built come to mind), then the consumers will react accordingly no matter how many chrome badges have been slapped on.

Jeeze, GM.

Oh .. they're putting it on Saabs alright. Any car they sell in North America. They don't sell Opels or Vauxhalls here (unfortunately! LOVE the Speedster) so they're exempt.

Can't wait for a proud new owner of a Caddiliac STS (which I belive can top $70,000 with options) to look over at the Chevy Aveo sitting next to him at the stoplight and see the exact same badge that adorns his car.

You mean like the same guys that put a solid rear axle on the '05 Mustang?

You guys can make jest over GM's misfortune, it's all in good fun.

But, at the end of the day, it's in the best interest of us CONSUMERS that they thrive.

The Mustang needs a competitor.

No competition = complacency.

Jack Frost,

I do agree with you,

I am sure if there was a Camaro in the works with IRS that the Mustang would probably get one, then again, you never know.

The point I was originally trying to make was that styling seems to be the biggest selling point in a hot car. If you look at the GTO, it has a stonger engine, 6-speed gearbox and an IRS suspension, but it has not attracted any media or sales attention compared to the gorgeous design of the Mustang. Had the 300C and Magnum been blandly styled they too would be sales afterthoughts.

It should be noted that there are a lot of "suits" at GM who tend to favor conservative designs. Looking at the lineup in the last few decades shows that.

My opinion is just as I said it before, if GM is going to get back into the ponycar business, they need to do it with a splash, and build something that attracts real attention.

The Mustang will only get better as long as it has a direct competitor, not saying there won't be improvements, but another car to benchmark is always good.
