More bad news for the Tundra
More bad news for the Tundra
This is from an article on Autoblog.com (third article down):
Out of a run of 30,000 5.7-liter V8 engines, Toyota has had reports of 20 camshafts snapping -- a minuscule number in light of the total (0.06 percent, as a matter of fact). Toyota says the outside supplier of the camshafts has discovered the problem, which was "a metallurgical defect in the casting," and the company is trying to figure out how many of the remaining 30,000 engines could also be affected, though because of the company's production method, the final number is not expected to be large. The camshafts have been designed to prevent collateral damage in case they break, but Toyota will replace a customer's entire engine if the camshaft failure should occur by sending a new 5.7L via airfreight to the nearest daeler. Apparently some Toyota execs believe that the new number one global automaker has been growing too fast to maintain proper quality control. Yet with the Tundra being a new truck with a new engine in a new market for Toyota, there are going to be teething problems, as we've seen. What remains to be seen is if, or for how long, these problems will continue.

Looks like things could get really ugly, talk about getting hit below the belt. Can't say that I feel sorry for them though. It just never ceases to amaze me that when Ford has an issue with a limited number of vehicles, the public jumps down there throat, but here's Toyota with the same kind of problem and the public just doesn't care.

Well, it's American public. They care more about domestic vehicles.
I hope this makes the evening news. Lord knows that if this were a Ford issue, every magazine, newspaper and internet site would call it a safety issue and ANOTHER HUGE BLUNDER for Ford.
This to me is ANOTHER HUGE BLUNDER for Toyota. Let's Talk it up!

Camshafts snapping?!?!
While feasible to the mind, is it just me or has anyone else never heard of this even occuring in automobiles before??
And why do I have to come to an ALL MUSTANG forum to learn about this? Why not in the papers or on the news on TV??? WTH!!!

Remember when the flaw was found in the Ford GT's control arm? The press even made up a story saying that Jay Leno was "outraged" about it, although they never even spoke to him about it nor did they print a retraction. Leno went so far as to write about it in his column in Popular Mechanics and complimented Ford on how they handled it and that zero production cars actually had a problem caused by the flaw.
I have, although it wasn't due to metallurlogical defect, was more of the "I dont knowq how to adjust valves" kind of defect.
The media in our country, it seems, it ran by foreign companies trying to get all of the consumers to buy non-domestic products. Give me some good old American Engineering and I'll be happy! Might not be the best, but if it breaks you don't need a second mortage...
Here's another tidbit of info too:
2007 IIHS Top Safety Picks http://www.iihs.org/ratings/default.aspx
Not one Toyota, Scion, or Lexus made the list.
Ahh, that should go over like a turd in a punchbowl
